Pretty good. In my experience with multi-person kumite, keep moving. If your martial art has movements where you strike on the move, spins, etc., it's a good time to use it. Standing and fighting puts you at risk of being grabbed by one (or more) people while someone else attacks. My 2 cents.

Reminds me of what I once heard about swimming pool lifeguards: If one of them has to frequently go into the pool, he or she will get fired. Their most important job is to be aware and prevent that emergency before it happens. I think that's one of the most important things that aikido teaches - awareness.

Good video, but one thing: The pre-emptive knee may have been a bit too early. It's good to react fast, but throwing a knee to someone's groin based on them seeming suspicious and getting in close range is not gonna hold up in court, and you may end up starting a fight which wasn't there to begin with. If possible I think it's good to maintain or establish a bit of distance and tell the person to not get closer, if they do, then it's clear what their intentions are and both ethically (and legally depending on the law and other circumstances) it's more okay for you to intiate the fight. Easier said than done and some good advice here, especially about not getting into the situation to begin with :)

Yeah, but what I think Ondrej meant is reacting as soon as you are sure of their intentions. It wasn't really that preemptive - Steve already started to take off the watch of Ondrej's wrist, and only then the knee came into play. So not too soon imo.

I have a legal question. If the strangers just asking for the time and doesn’t appear to reach for your watch can you be accused of assault? I realize this is a split second decision on the attack or just asking for time.

My reaction to situations like this has always been to put my hands up (to defend myself and to communicating that I know how to defend myself), to step away, and then to say something like, "It's late at night. What are doing getting so close?" After that, I've never had anyone move closer. Had they done so, I would've considered myself justified in fucking them up in whatever way I could. In short, be aware, communicate your apprehension, then kill if you have to to get out of there. No stranger with good intentions is going to approach you at such a close distance, regardless of the time of day.

Sheesh, please pardon the typos and omissions. I should've given it a once over. Still, I stand by what I said.

Hey man, I have been in a robber situation. I will explain what happens below. Can you make a video with this situation and what I could have done better? Would be fun :) The Situation About a month ago I was encountered by a stranger and asked if he could borrow my to make a call. Because he needed to go to a homeless facility. I first said no, but later I just gave him my phone. He was on a bicycle, so I stood in front of his bike so he couldn’t just take off. He could someone and said some weird shit then he said he had a knife and was taking my phone. After that I reacted and grabbed him with one arm under his arm (to prevent him from grabbing a knife), and with the other arm I strangled him. A friend of mine grabbed my phone out if his pocket. Then he held him by the arm and I called the police. He managed to escaped but I chased him down on my socks with the police on the phone and giving them instructions. The police came from behind and they jumped out of the car arrested him under shot.

It might sound a bit stupid but even though I practice Aikido (with an amazing sensei!), I have caught myself thinking about how I would possibly beat someone in a street fight by using the environment and generally the stuff you find on the street. Like a sign for example. By someone I don't mean a person who hasn't done something to me, but a thug or a mindless dude who's looking for trouble... xD My question is; Is it normal thinking about fighting so much? I mean I'm not crazy or stupid to start a fight by myself but why do you guys think I have these thoughts? 😂😂
@OndrejMatejOMnutritionist

Alex Balekjian humans have desire for conflict it isn't abnormal mate, but it is about who you surround yourself with, environment can affect you too. So if you live in rough part of town you are more likely to think that way. Or if you watch too many action films or playing brutal video games. Or you might just need to use your energy in an active way so go to the gym. Train martial arts or get a good girlfriend... But real mastery is to be able to have the same calm mind no matter where you are. Anger is a real enemy one can have.

OMnutritionist It might be because of the videogames. Well...goodbye GTA... Now excuse me Ondrej but I have a good girlfriend to find and go train in a gym with my best friend Tomas the train xD Hahah but really thank you for answering and I'll think about the things u said carefully sometime later 'cause now I have to get ready for school. Have a good day!!
