Thanks for your videos I learn a lot by seeing how other martial arts do things. I have a question about your one and two blocking postures. How do you deal with losing leverage taking the impact so far from the hilt?

Thanks for watching, and great question! The movement of the hips is really critical to that, in that rolling with the incoming cut helps dissipate some of the incoming force. The truth is however, that there isn't as much leverage as some of the styles where the hand is brought more into play and closer to an incoming attack. The off-set to that is that the tighter hand motions make for slightly tighter and therefor faster defense and counter, and it prevents the hand from being drawn out of position which can open you up to complex attacks. It's a trade off, but what we've chosen to emphasize in this style of broadsword. Thanks again for such a great question, hope to hear from you again!

I personally prefer not to parry with the edge for any edged weapon; however in some situation i see you can get away with it. Where did you guys get your dao trainer?

Recently found and am enjoying the dao videos. Notice this one demonstrates blade-to-blade defense techniques. Thoughts, comments on blade-to-wrist as possibly more effective?

+gtaylor5135 Blade to wrist is a good technique and we do touch on that in some of our videos. As for more effective, that isn't always true. Especially for a newer player, trying to focus on blade to wrist comes with certain perils. In blade to blade defense you are essentially using your sword as a wall between you and your opponents blade, which is a more passive action, where as to strike to the wrist of the cutting hand to stop the attack is a much more precision cut and requires a fair amount of both speed and accuracy. Although it can stop an attack, it also doesn't automatically halt the blade, meaning that if it isn't executed with the right timing, that unsecured blade might still land, where as in blade to blade defense the opponent's sword is secure. I encourage wrist cuts and stop cuts as much as possible, but it is a higher level skill and this video is fairly early in the progression of techniques.

Andrew Raslan Curious.com is a paid online teaching resource. It operates on a monthly subscription basis, or I believe there is a way to just purchase and download one course. The videos we have there are significantly more detailed and offer a greater range of instruction. Although we do like to put together some fun instructional videos for free, martial arts instruction is part of what we do for a living, so some of our content is for cost. We do have more free Broadsword content coming in the near future however!
