Tie a bowline knot in each end of a piece of 550 cord, now you have sling and can carry it over your shoulder and keep your hands free! Air travel with it, take it where ever you go, keep the sun off, keep the rain off! A 'tactical' umbrella is an amazing addition to your EDC kit in my opinion. Back in the days after work, I used to walk back home from the bus stop at night holding an umbrella. I don't have any of these skills but I knew it could save my life if attacked by lunatics of the night.

Hi Matt. What would you think of obtaining 5 or 6, 1 half inch wide, 6 inch long velcro strips to help secure the umbrella leafs tightly to the shaft of the umbrella? Folding the leafs snuggly around the umbrella shaft, snapping the security straps, and then tightly space the velcro strips the length of the shaft. I believe this would help prevent the umbrella from opening while being used for self defense, and make more impact when striking and thrusting with the tip. Stay safe. Doug.

I ll never look at umbrellas the same way again! Matt I do have a request, could you record a video where you demonstrate some stick fighting techniques to defend against an assailant who has a bit of taekwondo or kick boxing training,not necessarily a black belt but past the beginner stage. There are punks and thugs out there who fit that description not all of them are cowards who only try to target victims who appear defenseless.

Thanks ..Great video .. the umbrella another option for self-defense without it being seen as a self-defense weapon... Yep keep it super simple.. between my canes and my umbrella I have self-defense weapons for non permissive environments.. and traveling...

@@pasquinilli BTW I was looking for a decent Irish Black Thorn walking stick.. and all of a sudden I remembered my grandmother had one!! . She jokingly used to refer to it as her sheleighly 🤣.. she had given it to my father and I remember he put it in the basement over the rafters years ago ..so I found it! It's a fantastic Irish blackthorn walking stick.. the shaft is fairly thick compared to most of the ones I've seen.. not only does it have a good knob .. they left one of the roots protruding about 6 in out as a grip.... So it's also a great cane ! .. this can be used much like the Cane Crook to rake the face.. of the perpetrator.. so happy I found this Irish Black Thorn walking stick I will carry it for self-defense and it gets be memories of my grandma the boot

Thanks for the video. When I lived in Louisiana, I carried an umbrella all the time. I would have liked an umbrella that was "unbreakable" in the sense of the wind not being able to bend the spokes.

*All well and good, but it doesn't rain anymore (at least where I live)! Unless you're a member of the British so-called royal family (men always seem to be carrying a brolly, especially when there's no rain on the horizon), you probably won"t walk around with an umbrella these days...*
