Just another brief commentary: if you pock by the other end, the power of the strike as a short stick is increased...

20:30 I'm saying we put the gun ranges and an armory. Civilian armory sounds fine, but that's more of a gun shop. I'm talking about something like a canoe or kayak rental, except you don't have to pay. You get assigned a rifle, and a monthly allotment of ammo, which you have to fire at that range. They'rd be a soda machine that takes change, a vending machine with snacks, a rangemaster, and probably a recruiter. On busier days, trusted volunteers. 21:26 Ah, you worry about a lack of discipline. Fine. Certify them with the rifle before you load it. Make their first shot count. You're not going to PT my guts out. I just want to be more technically competent as the American population over the average Iraqi. That's all I'm asking for. 23:01 Once you get em' to bow down to an empty rifle, I think they're on the way to certification.

Great videos Matt! I agree the cane is an excellent tool for nonpermissive environments. I live in a state where gun laws are very good, and I carry a firearm daily for self defense. I'm also a firearms enthusiast and love plinking my own handloads at my steel targets. That being said, I also have a few hickory canes for instances where I travel to places where firearms are not allowed. I enjoy learning the techniques and perspective you demonstrate in your videos! Keep up the good work!!!

Thank you, Coach! May we have another? Great work mixing it up. My choice is cane, as always. A colleague of mine kept a 5 iron and some golf balls in his work truck, just in case of nocturnal predators. On another note, is it possible to block an elbow effective ly?

Here's a tip... put a sock on your bat. If someone gets hold of the bat, the sock will slide off of the bat, giving you another swing at the piñata... 🎉😂

Matt , my choice for improvised weapons to carry around in my car would by any type of object or item shaped similarly to the dowel rod weapons you have featured in previous videos as these are the types iv been practicing with or perhaps an adjustable metal cane like the ones sold in pharmacies.

Matt, great class. So glad you pointed out the serious ramifications of using a bat or golf club for self defense. Years ago i made an arrest when a male used a bat on another male, who sustained serious injuries, due to a road rage incident. The instigator had a baseball glove, in the back seat of his vehicle, strapped to a bat. As many people believe this will allow a person to have a bat in their vehicle when not actually playing at that time. This is what occurred. In court, it was learned that he wasn't going to or leaving a game, but that he had never played baseball. He was found guilty of going armed with intent and assault causing great bodily injury. When going to, or leaving a game or practice, a player should have the bat in a zippered case, and with the other baseball gear, stored in the vehicle's trunk. This hopefully can prevent a serious problem. Stay safe. Doug.

My friend and I have been having a (friendly) disagreement about the viability of one technique we didn’t see in your video - a baseball swing. It’s a strong strike… but does it telegraph and take too long to chamber and strike?
@pasquinilliКүн бұрын
The problem with that strike is it’s easy to intercept if you step straight into the attack. The way to fix that is to swing from the shoulder and not from behind the shoulder. Thanks! I’ll make you a video.

Watched a lot of your videos, came across today. My impression : with this stuff you will beat up I a real street fight. A lot of blablabla and bad technic. Sorry for that. But that's my impression as an martial arts and combat fighting practitoner since 30 years.
@pasquinilli2 күн бұрын
It’s not for a street fight. There are countless random attacks by punks and criminally insane attacking elderly and women and other targets of opportunity. The stick gives an opportunity to train and develop a posture of self defense. I even don’t imagine most people who train with me here on this video, even becoming a victim because their posture will change so much. It’s like taekwondo or karate or kungfu. Most people who study the traditional martial arts would not do well if they actually went looking for a real street fight. Their posture and awareness is different from training though, and so they are less likely to be in a real fight. It’s the paradox of most martial arts - imo. Thanks for your feedback. I think we completely agree on most points but my intent differs from most.

I live in Italy where we have an old tradition of stick fighting from the shepherds and I appreciate a lot your teachings. I want to add only a small advice how to make a good fighting jo stick: we use not a stick millef from a wooden board but a suiteble hardwood sucker. The reason is that a sucker has a structure llke a series of concentric tubes of lignin that make the stick very resistent to bending and chipping during a stick fighting. Every fruit tree of " rosacae family" is good like but tree, apricoat, apple etc. but also olive tree. In Ireland also rhey have an d tradition of stick fighting with the shillelagh stick ( similar to the jo) made out of blackthorn sprouts dried for a couple of years that are the very best. In Italy we prefer howthorn which is easier to fnd in branches suitible for a good fighting stick with performances like bkackthorn and......fully complimentary!

As a male, diagnosed at 34, now being 41, with Multiple Scleroses which heavily effects my the strength and use of my legs depending on if my nerves are transmitting or cross-firing like bad electrical wire. While I still have good upper body strength currently I have needed a cane for some time now. Luckily, I have my Grandfather's old Hickory crooked walking cane and it has been very handy in my journey. I've had my CCW and carried a firearm for much longer then I've had the MS but as you have mentioned here, even being in the US, I can't take that everywhere I go. I thank you for talking about this stuff and will get a resistance band to help me work out my upper body strength to preserve what I still have and maybe even beef it up a bit. I'm also working on another cane/walking stick using a vine wrapped hiking stick that someone had made for my Grandfather as well as Deer Antler / stag from a Buck that my Grandfather have harvested decades ago. I am mounting them together with Stainless steel All-Thread rod but not sure how well that would hold up in a self defense situation...
