I'm going to confirm with my spiritual director but to pray every morning for 1 hour, to come closer to Him in this way. I have been doing this sporadically and have been drawn to do this for a long time but have not been disciplined about it. I thank God for His mercy.

About 7 years ago, my daughter asked God what if she should be married and if so, for Him to show her the man she should marry. If she wasn't supposed to be married, then what should she do with her life. The next month she dated a young man who was a devout Catholic and they were married 2 years later. He's been a great son-in-law for me as well as a great and understanding husband.

When i was in college, i was brave enough to break up with my emotionally abusive boyfriend. I prayed to Jesus in the shower to give me strength and to show me who i was meant to be with. A vision of my now husband flashed in my mind like a road block. And i knew it was the sign i prayed for. We have been married for 13 years with 6 kids.

Thank you, Beth. For a while now, I've felt a pull towards starting my mornings with prayer and scripture. My life has been very chaoitc, though, with my living situation changing. However, I am literally moving to a better situation today and so I will continue to pray but I think my answer will be to have a morning prayer time with the Lord. (The other thing I had been planning on for Lent, is to read The Cost of Discipleship)

Going into Lent is the best time to do this and also asking the Lord what HE wants me to do! I’m not Catholic, not even sure I’d call myself Christian, and I have A LOT of religious trauma, but I’ve been feeling a magnetic pull to churches and God for months, so I bought a new Bible, and started attending one church, and I visit an Anglican cathedral too for their once-a-month open to the public day just to be in that beautiful environment… and decided I wanted to participate in Lent this year. My main thing for Lent is that I’m dedicating at least an hour a day to prayer and reading the Bible with journaling and writing down verses that speak to me. I was a bit distracted during your prayer but I felt & heard “Repent. Prayer. Time. Every day.”

Sure! I just mean I didn't have a routine; I wasn't committed. Prayer happened when I felt like it for however long I felt like it, etc. I wasn't prioritizing Him or my time with Him. So that Lent I committed to spending time with Him in the morning for a certain amount of time.

Yes, it sometimes feels like talking to a wall, begging it to help you while you writhe and twist like a bug pinned to the floor. For years at a time. I've lived that. You have to decide if the faith is the truth or not, on its own merits. If you base your relationship with God on how you feel or on messages sent directly to you, it'll fail. If you find it to be the truth, live according to the precepts of the Church as best you can, and don't worry about the rest of it. Sometimes living according to the truth has to be its own reward. That's how I'm still Catholic. Because there's no logical, objective reason even in light of what I've lived through, that God and His Church aren't real. So I chose to act as if they were and structure my life on that. And that's what my faith was for a long time. I did begin to gain a prayer life that wasn't just the basics after that. But that commitment, and living out that commitment for a long season, came first. And then there's Saints like John of the Cross and Mother Theresa...if you follow God as best you can and as consistently as you can but still feel like He doesn't hear you, you're in good company.
