I hadn't considered flagging overhead light. Thanks! It was always just a choice of either off or on and then deal with it. I also liked the idea of putting the camera in the hallway to back up beyond the walls.

I'm glad all of that was helpful! Took me forever to figure out that i could just simply flag the light. You can really use anything to cover the light!

This is one of those channels, that in the future, i can brag about discovering it before everyone else. Love the content man. As a broadcast videographer this is super useful. Keep it up

I really liked the idea to shape light in order to make the background more interesting. I hadn’t noticed it at all in your shot until you talked about it, but it worked very well. That’s the kind of subtle changes that can really improve the quality of a shot. Thanks!

2:39 legit question, where is this man's neck? his shirt looks like it's eating it. Personally, he looks a bit too relaxed as if he's leaned too far back or sliding out of the chair, did he have some sort of handicap? I would've suggested his sit up more or move closer to the edge of the seat.

good video mate. Bouncing off the wall is a good tip, something I wish I knew all those years ago. Sometimes just shooting a hard light at an angle off the back wall looks good too. Post gobo's work well haha

thanks for doing this video, def interesting practical tips that come in handy in real world situations (I just did an office interview with exact same set up of camera through the doorway--but not as much with lighting). The part with the flag over the subject when you leave the lights on is great idea. Can you share what you use on top of light stand to support that? Great additional lighting tips too!

Bob, I used a c-stand + Gobo arm and then I used clamps from a hardware store to support it! Thanks for the positive comment!

1:43 Just get a floppy man, way easier set up than what you got going on there and you can get negative space from the vertical portion of the floppy.

2:36 learned this the hard way as well, stay away from squishy seats. Taller more fit people look fine but shorter less fit people look less flattering.
