I think you will know why you need the three years videography course only when you attended it. Really, you won't even know what you've missed, until you really start learning it. Don't take me wrong, I'm not saying this is a bad "how to" film, it is really a good one in fact, I gave a thumb up. But this film only covered a fraction of what you will need to know when it's your turn to do it. So, you still need that 3 year course + 3 more years experience if you are going run this business.

The behind the scenes really helped me with what to get/bring, what to expect on the day, what shots to think about. Great behind the scenes, thank you for making this.

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing you collab with the photographer. I do both photo and video, and have a second photographer take over photo when we're offering both services. On occasion, a bride who has already booked a photographer brings me on for video. It's a blessing to get to work both sides of the spectrum, because I've been able to tailor my habits and mannerisms to both ensure great shots for me, for the photographer and also guarantee a non-intrusive experience for the couple and guests. If you are a photographer who uses only primes, sits in the front and center of an aisle during a ceremony and you don't care if you're blocking the videographer or guests in order to "get your shot", then you should re-think what you're doing in the wedding business. I coordinate every Ceremony with the photographer (camera placements, where I'd like to be to get my shot and allow them to get theirs, etc.). It baffles my mind the amount of photographers that go "yup, ok, good, sounds great", then block the cameras and shots, or just stand plainly in front of them. Jokes on them, I inform the photographer and couple that we'll be coordinating shots and if they ruin mine, I just show the couple the video and explain that unfortunately the photographer chose to ruin your video, because they simply didn't care or don't have the proper equipment to ensure getting the shot and not ruin my own (ie. the photographers that only shoot prime, because they're sharper - zombies). Primes are for getting ready, photoshoot, all non-speaking portions of the Reception, you need zooms for Ceremony, Toasts and Reception Games people. How many weddings I've booked after a wedding, because a photographer was always in the way and ruining moments and I'm always back capturing it beautifully without interfering is always nice though. People notice these things.

Your video was an hour well spent. Thanks for taking the time to create this. You and your team work your butts off. A couple of moments that stuck with me: 1) Umbrella hot shoe mount. As a fellow bald guy, I appreciate the innovation. You may want to get a patent. 2) "Be nice." You've definitely got that down and your clear communications and collaborative style really gets everyone on board. 3) Set exposure to the brightest outdoor light and leave it there. (Why haven't I thought of this?) 4) Torch LEDs. Didn't even know they exist. I'm definitively going to look into them. 5)"Keep being in love." Your drone was freaking out the photographer (ha!), but that didn't stop the love from flowing. 6) Shoot all glide cam/gimbal work in manual focus. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not sure how you can always maintain a steady distance, especially when people come dancing in. My Sony A7iii is amazing at locking focus when I use the touch screen and on the gimbal, I can never pull focus as well as the camera can follow focus. Still, as a former Nikon DSLR video shooter, I agree that manual is the way to go...in a perfect world. 7)You can only prepare so much. I'm not a wedding shooter, but I've been second cam a couple of times for a friend who does and she said the same thing. I want to be all buttoned up, but stuff happens, as they say. You've really got to be flexible. I enjoyed helping my friend shoot weddings, but I'll never have the intestinal fortitude to do it myself full time. It's pretty grueling. Thanks again for sharing this video.

The Mavic isn't "usable"? Pretty extreme given that we are just filming weddings, right? The Mavic for the price and portability, is great for weddings.
@scottmckenna7 жыл бұрын
I was saying it jokingly (for the most part). I just mean when you own an Inspire 2 which has remarkable image capability, it makes the Mavic feel unusable that's all. I'm not saying it's junk, it's just not the Inspire 2 and once you see that quality, it's hard to use something else. Does that make sense?
@scottmckenna7 жыл бұрын
and yes you can say we're "JUST" filming weddings, but I don't look at business that way. I say "If I can get better quality than the rest of people, I'm going to do it". It's the reason I own an $8000 drone in the first place, to stick out as having some of the best aerials you'll see. Hope that makes sense.
@Geletin9117 жыл бұрын
Scott McKenna, that all makes sense - for you and your situation. I’m genuinely happy that what you do works for you (seriously lol), but a lot, and I mean a lot, of people look to people on KZbin and try to mimic their exact set up, even if that means going in debt over a drone. Therefore, stating what I believe is still a good drone, especially for weddings, isn’t usable (even jokingly), is extreme. Anyways, keep up the good work!
@scottmckenna7 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Borge I understand your argument, but keep in mind it was my my behind the scenes and just my opinion for what I do coming from my mouth that’s all. I wasn’t saying no one should use a Mavic. I just said for what I do, I just prefer the Inspire. That’s it, no disrespect intended. It’s like me saying the iPhone should never be used for professional video because I like the GH5 better. That would be a true statement in my head, but does’t mean that if the iPhone works for you, you can’t use it. An opinion is just an opinion.. thanks for checking out the video though, I hope you found it helpful.

Very impressive... you have a very easy going approach to everyone you interact with; SO important in an environment like this. Your people management skills are as impressive as your videographer technical skills. Nice job.

I seldom watch an entire KZbin video this long! Worth every minute. Thank you so much for the additional effort that went into making a behind-the-scenes when you already had so much on your plate! You are a champ! Excellent work and wishing you the best in everything! Also, you got people skills!

Amazing BTS and very educational, thanks for sharing! :) Quick question, I saw the final video on Vimeo and loved it! What else do you turn in to the bride and groom besides the 10 minute video? Any other raw footage or edited content? I get people asking me to film and edit 2 hours of the special day. I think that's just too much to edit in a cinematic way :|

Just randomly started playing after a video I was watching on the DJI mavic 2 Pro.. Now it's almost Midnight and I realized I just watched an hour video, and the final video. Super good man.

"Be kind to people, and you'll always win in business." - Really good advice Scott, I'm doing my MBA right now and have my hand in multiple start-ups; Most of my professors and mentors have advised the same. Love the attention to detail in your work and thank you for a lot of really practical tips!
