In the previous video he says, "I might just put out informal 2-3 minute clips" and then drops this master class on 80-90% of getting started with videography and includes an immersive cinematic opening riding through the swamp and great bluebird footage. Definitely over delivering! Thank you Doug!

I'd love to see how you manage media when filming for a large project when traveling. Must take a tremendous amount of storage for that raptor.

It does indeed… On a very active filming day is not uncommon to shoot 2 TB. The biggest cost is not the camera of the lens is actually operating a RED! lol.

Another great video. Very helpful to watch and hear how you set up and record. I don't do video (so far) but you are right that your tips translate to stills.

What's up Doug? I like this particular shoot because you appear to be by yourself. Camera crews are OK I guess, but this makes it more personal. Great job Doug, I really did learn something. God Bless my friend. Peace!

Nice overview - thanks for the tips! I sure wish the hybrid cameras that I use (Z8/Z9) had pre-record.

Doug when is the best time to watch a hole in a tree for birds. I have several holes I am watching but have not seen the birds in there yet.

Mid-spring is the best time for Bluebirds. I'm in SC so our Bluebirds start nesting in mid-April. Further North in the US might be slightly later by a few weeks.

Love the videos and the teaching. What I would love to see is at the end of the videos is the actual montage or edited footage or photograph of what you filmed that day. Just to see how everything came together. Binge watching your videos and the majority include the teaching which is 10/10 , but not the final edited version at the end. (Just a suggestion)

How To Film Bluebirds. Start by using film!! Why is it that everybody says "film" instead of "video"? Just wondering because these kind of things bother me. Nothing derogatory, just wondering. Cheers!
@douggardner17 ай бұрын
As I understand it, the category of moving pictures is used in two different terms “film”, and “video.” originally filming meant just that moving pictures captured on actual film. Then we moved to electronic cameras or digital, and that is where the term video started to be used. In general, the old cinematic films have a very high end look and feel to them and Video is just the opposite… generally used when describing home videos, low end TV productions, like news and reality TV. High end nature documentaries generally emulate, the old film movies with camera movement, lens selection, shallow depth field, and shooting at a lower frame rate like 24 frames a second. The frame rate is one of the biggest differences because the lower the frame rate the more motion blur you have between frames, which is a more natural feel to the human eye. The bottom line is that both of the terms nowadays are used interchangeably, but for me video means low end production and film or cinema refers to high-end productions.
