Yes! Old phones can make excellent additions to multicam setups (particularly for overhead shots and stuff like that). It can sometimes be tricky to get all the latencies synced between different types of cameras, but it's usually doable And Happy New Year!

While not necessarily for “KZbin” videos, I use a 3 camera setup for a podcast I host. I just use my a6100 as my main, and 2 old iPhones for side angles. Once I figured out how to use the multi-cam sequence in premiere pro it made editing a breeze.

YES, Back to Tom Buck teaching! I like the multi-camera approach. On my current project, we have 4 cameras, It's a talk show we have 1 on each and 1 on both and a GoPro studio shot. We edit on the fly through the ATEM Extreme ISO. If I mess up live because I have the ISO track I can fix it in post. Your way is required because your a one man band. I do have an idea for you. Run your audio through the Rodecaster PRO II and record locally (Backup) then used 1/4" cables out of the monitor ports (set to Line Level) into the Handle on the FX3 (also set to line level) and then if there and issue you have a backup. You can use the Rode to eq the Sennheiser Mic.

Great video my friend but I still need help. I upload videos to Rumble and KZbin. Here is the issue. Rumble also uploads their videos to KZbin so If I give them the same video as I already uploaded to youtube then Rumble will claim it and I get a copyright strike. I could tell Rumble to not upload it to youtube but they could get more views than I did on my own youtube channel. Hope that was not confusing. So here is what I want to do to fix this and please tell me if you think it will work. Would if I record the same video with 2 seperate cameras? Example: I record with my phone. Would if I record with 2 separate phones at the same time. Will they both have their own different coding? This way I can give one video to Rumble and upload the other to my KZbin without the fear of a copyright strike.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
This is a tricky situation. I'm not sure if two separate cameras/files will help, to be honest. I'm not sure how the copyright system works- I think it might be advanced enough to recognize the actual content (words, subjects, etc), which means it would still get claimed. I've never used Rumble, but if they have a support team, it might be worth reaching out to them to see if they can help find a way to stop the claims. Good luck!

Hello Tom, I know this is a 2 yr old video, thank you for leaving online. Before reaching out I did look over your list of equipment however, I do not see the white mic XLR cable used in this video listed. Is there a brand that you would recommend for a white cable? I have on order the Rode Caster Duo - The White Collection (basically the Creator bundle however I choose the White Podmic USB) with a blue cable as Rode does not have a white cable. Would really like to get a good quality cable in white and leave the blue one for if I add a second mic for additional people. Thank you, for your time and I am learning so much from your content. Hey! I do have a few setup videos that touch on it a bit, but the truth is there are SO MANY variables and options out there that no two setups looks the same. My cameras record directly to the SD cards, so I just have a power cable and an HDMI monitor running to each one. Even that's probably not necessary, but it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about batteries dying when recording for a long time and the external monitors just help make sure things are framed/focused properly 👍

Great video Tom! I’m about to get a second camera myself, and I’ve always thought of using 2 cameras to be daunting. Specifically when syncing different pieces of audio. However, and correct me if I’m wrong, but what you simply press record at the same time on both cameras, clap two sync the audio and you go about your video recording straight on both cameras. Meaning, you don’t record audio on a separate device. It’s all in camera and you edit back and forth between clips on FCP. Just like that? lol
@gospyder2 жыл бұрын
By the way, the puns are everything brother lol
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I just use a clap sync for the most part. App like Final Cut and Premiere also have auto-syncing features, but I prefer to just do it manually most of the time. I usually run audio through my FX3, but sometimes I'll use the Rodecaster, in which case I just sync the RCP audio to the camera audio and then mute the cameras' audio. I do this a lot with mic comparison videos where I have to constantly switch between different sources 👍

Two vids in one week? Maybe you could call these "Bonus Bucks!" No? I'll show myself out. @tombuck2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! I think it just depends on your workflow/preference really. It works pretty well for me, but I did recently set up a slightly different "off camera" lighting setup to make things feel a little more relaxed and comfortable. @tombuck2 жыл бұрын
The way I do it is with the ATEM Mini Pro. You can connect a monitor to it for “multi view” output 👍

@@tombuck so cameras -> ATEM -> monitor. Thanks!

IMO, interviews where there's an opening wide shot showing interviewee and interviewer, a cut to interviewee, then a different angle while all is behind the 180 line, works as long as no one looks into cameras. The interview audience is spectators. However in tutorials speakers should switch to the cam with the tally light on.

Another great video! Quick question how do you have your mic mounted on the side of your tripod? Looks great and is one less stand taking up space
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Yes, having the mic on the tripod has been awesome! It keeps things cleaner and the mic stays properly positioned even if I move the camera. I use the iFootage Support Rod with one of their SpiderCrab quick releases attached to the tripod's 5/8 mount.

Hi Tom, another helpful video 👍Q. what is the name & model of the 2nd camera monitor? 🤗

Hi there Tom! You always serve great and useful content! Anyway how do you manage framing the subject on the right position if you're doing it on your own?

Nice. OT: In your podcast, you mentioned your second channel. However, searching on YT for Tom Buck Two (or similiar spelling) does only show your main channel… Care to point me (a Tom Buck afficionado for years now) in the right direction…?
Great mate. I'm going for 7 DSLR'S, 2 webcams & 1 Android Phone & 2 iPhone's (XS Max & 13 Pro Max) & 1 GoPro 7 black - For a grand total of 13 cameras in my Mega-ManCave Studio..o..O..OH! OMG I think I am crazy 🤪

Heck yeah! 😁 You can never have too many cameras. Great to see you Spike!

Hi Tom!! So they are actually 2 videos?? and then you put them together, cut them according to the camera you are looking at?? I always wanted to know how you do that!!😊😊😊 I thought there was a person behind the cameras telling you which camera you should look at hehe. Thanks for your comments!!! 😊😊😊

Hi Tom, good video ! Question : why, while recording , you don't plug both cams in the atem, and/or switch with the elgato pedal ?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! My reason is because the ATEM is only 1080 and I like to record in 4K. If/when a 4K ATEM comes out, I might need to adapt my workflow 👍
@kumoitojp2 жыл бұрын
Do you record to card or software in your computer? Thanks
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I record directly to the cameras so I can get the full 4K resolution 👍

Tom have you heard of the Roland AeroCaster?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I have, but I haven't used it yet! I used some of their other mixers at my old job and they were really nice.

Good points for sure. I like using multiple cameras when I am not lazy lol 😂
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I feel too lazy to set it up, but then I remember how much more work it'll be when editing without it 😁

So, what's a jump cut?
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
A jump cut is when a part is cut out of a single clip with no change/transition, so the result is that the shot "jumps" ahead almost like a time skip.

It doesn't really bother me but coming from a background that includes ENG and live studio television, the use of the second angle and not addressing the camera always feels odd and unmotivated to me. I get why you and many others use it to cover up cuts though. Multi-cam setups are definitely a great way to have more coverage and save shoot time overall. And TwoCam... LOL - Love It!
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
It's always interesting to hear the different schools of thought on two camera setups. There are a few people on KZbin who do a fantastic job addressing both cameras without making it feel forced.
@arnoldsnodgrass29532 жыл бұрын
I agree with this sentiment but I’m old-school too. The random cut to a camera off to one side while the presenter continues addressing the main cam just looks plain peculiar to me, unless there’s some additional visual context (like an item being demonstrated) in the second angle.
@arnisbrown58482 жыл бұрын
Putting the two together, I like the idea of addressing camera 2 for one liners [David Letterman stare] to motivate their use even further.
