Tom: I am currently using a Shure MVX2U for my SM7B. I am not a big fan of the new Motiv Mix software update, so I am thinking about upgrading to a Connect 2, Scarlett 2i2, or Vocaster 2. I only record my voice and I want auto-leveling (auto gain), which all three of these offer. Which one would you spend your money on?
@tombuck
@tombuck 18 сағат бұрын
Honestly, they're all pretty great. I think Lewitt does the best overall job with auto-gain and clipguard, but the others are good too. I think it honestly comes down to which one suits your budget best, and if you prefer one design over the other. You can't go wrong!

If you don't need the 1/4" input, it seems comparable to a Focusrite Vocaster, with a more advanced software feature set (but at almost 3x the price of the 'One', or 2x the 'Two'). Thanks for another informative video!

Yeah, the featureset is terrific, but the price is definitely on the higher end compared to competition. I love the Vocasters, but find the software pretty lacking.

Sharing this to you cause it's funny, when you finally have 2 desk meanwhile me using dining table as my 2nd table to set a camera. It's so heavy and annoying noise that literally my below neighbor will hear the dining table moved. 😂 Like there is no way to buy another desk for that small desk unless new dining table but I'll make it with wheels. 🤣🤣🤣 Or unless if I got my own room, that's the time I'm going to do it. Just asked my friend if had the issue again and apparently not... or eventually once. So although all those cables where in use and functioning, we basically just replaced the device, it seems fair to say that it was one of those 'phantomatic' most probably cable related issue 🤷🏻‍♂ But the little time I played with it on that day, I have to say that the size, all the cables at the back and the usability I do like...

Our phones have non replaceable batteries … our smart watches have non replaceable batteries … this makes no sense … ive had iPhones for >10 years the battery depletion wasn’t an issue it was the software upgrades … this is a gap that “tech” KZbinrs tend to have … they don’t understand computers / software and the engineering behind it … and I can tell that most people commenting have no idea either , lastly there is no waste these are recycled and reused vs old school batteries and the most important point , people have 0 idea on how to properly dispose of regular batteries it’s always in the trash

This arm is not a great fit with the Rode Podmic USB That's the combo I have and although the amazon page shows them being used together it doesn't really work... First you have to tighten the tension knob reaaaally tight for it not to fall Second if you need any vertical adjustability, say you changed position in your chair in a discord call, then the mic can't follow you easily because you had to tighten the knob so much for it not to fall...

The Scarlett is great! The 3rd gen doesn’t have as much gain, so you likely just need a booster and you’ll be good to go. The Klark Teknik CT1 is the most affordable one I know of and works quite well. It’ll add a lot more gain to the 58 and make things much easier to work with.

The only thing I'm not entirely understanding. How does this effect make our brains go "ah yes, miniatures"
@tombuck
@tombuck Күн бұрын
That's a really good question! I honestly have no idea, but I'd guess it has something to do with the sense of scale? It's almost like big objects in real life are always fully in focus and super clear, but tiny objects can be seen with a shallow depth of field, where not everything is in focus all the time. Tilt shift makes it possible to give that same shallow depth of field to larg objects which maybe makes our brains have that "it's a miniature!" moment.
