You know all other videos just tell you , but you took the time with an engine to show exactly we’re to spray. Thank you so much. Non-mechanic

Good tips in the video,starting fluid works quite fine to find leaks, used it quite a couple of times. Very nice bonnet stay you have there but it needs a bit of wood varnish.2:26.

Good video that can truly help some beginning backyard mechanic out, despite what any internet morons may say. Good job. Thanks for the help.

Great video! 2 things here make me really happy. #1 you explain the process so well and #2 I have an 83 Chevy 305 in a k10 pickup with all emissions deleted so I only have the vacuum connections from the brake booster and the distributor vacuum advance. That's it! Other than an intake manifold leak or a bed carburetor base gasket mine seems so simple compared to what you just showed. Thanks

Is this safe spraying? I know it's just water but shouldn't we watch out with any electrical wires/hoses etc or does that not matter?

Only 8 comments, and most of them talking about him spraying water to find a vacuum leak. Small amounts of water are fine. The inside of an engine gets plenty hot enough to evaporate small amounts of water that get in. Now driving through a puddle and getting a cup full of water at once, yeah that will screw up some parts. Water is non-compressible yes, but only if there is enough water to try and be compressed. A little bit of water if it even makes it as far as the combustion chamber would evaporate causing no damage.

small amounts of water will not harm your engine , in fact its a good way to get rid of carbon build up. I've poured water down my carb while engine is running at about 2500 rpm. just pour it slowly being careful not to pour enough in to stall it. yes water doesn't compress but at 2500 rpm you would have to dump a lot I at once . common sense goes a long way. water poured down carbs to clean the combustion chambers has been done for years. I read an atypical in popular mechanics when in my teens, my uncles car had slight knock and ran rough. told him about the article I read.....in short it cured the slight knock and run on issues he had. I became his favorite nephew after that . this would of been in the late 60's

What about wd-40, wouldn't that be a safer method since it's far less flammable?

All of these videos that talk about high rpm at idle with a leak only apply to fuel injected systems, because the computer pumps more fuel to try and compensate. A carbureted engine wont do this but instead will run like shit instead

@researchandbuild1751 4 жыл бұрын
@Haiti News Info Haiti News Info you have ro find the leak, or increase fuel rate in the carb ro compensate (increase idle fuel ratio) but you need to find the vacuum leak, easiest way is to use a smoke machine, hooked to the intake manifold, put a plasric bag over the carb. Watch to see if any smoke comes out where it ahouldnt and that will show where the air peak is. There are so e good youtube vids on how to build a cheap smoke machine with a soldering iron, a jar, and a cloth dipped in mineral oil

It’s k not a good idea to use flammable gas or liquid on Direct Injection engines because of the risk of engine damage due to detonation

I use soapy water. Super safe and the soap will bubble at the site of a vacuum leak.
@Trpr-dw4wx
@Trpr-dw4wx 5 жыл бұрын
That won't work unless there is a pressure leak, pressure creates the bubbles when you spray the soap water, a vacuum leak won't create bubbles because it's sucking in and not blowing out.

This is a horrible video anybody that would use anything that is flammable is stupid. It's better to use carburetor cleaner or brake part cleaner and listen to your motor smooth out. Not nearly as combustible as propane or starting fluid! But it's still best to have a fire extinguisher readily available.
