Thanks for the video going to give this a try myself. Just a quick question, how would I be able to see if there’s a leak in the evaporator without having to rip the dash apart? And also would it still be somewhat safe to add refrigerant if there’s any leaks bcuz it is really hot where I’m at right now and I need the ac. Thx.

@@jason2live190 there is no way to visually see the evaporator without taking the dash apart, but I believe that the least of your problems. most leakes are in between the lines because of gaskets. And yes, nothing happens if you add refrigerant as long as you follow the gauge and don’t add too much freon.

The #1 source of leaks are the service port "caps". The cap, NOT the shrader is the primary seal. Cap seals and contact surface need to be clean and TIGHT.

Honda did extend the warranty on the condenser only for 10 years. Not for rock damage, but for not being installed proper at the factory. Depends on ur situation, it may be covered. Campaign #6C3/ service bulletin #19-091

The A/C evaporators on these generation civics are also common to leak. You can remove the glove box and disconnect the the blower motor transistor and stick a mirror and angle it inside where the blower motor transistor fits and more than likely will see traces of a/c dye as well.

I have a 99 civic and thank god my car is easy to work on. I'm dealing with a leak as well after replacing m entire A/C system. My evaporator sits right behind the glove box and its easy to get to. I pulled mine out and replaced in under 30 min. It's like 7 bolts on my car to remove the evaporator housing in my car. I have to inject some dye into my system and I have to just start looking around til I find the leak.

My just purchased the hose to check the Freon. So if it’s low do you recommend us to use the dye to check for any leaks? Or since it’s low in Freon we just recharge it? I’ve taken it to multiple shops to get it checked but they do not have the hose for new cars. My last resort is the dealer but I’m trying to avoid spending crazy amount of money. If you are low on freon you have a leak. But most likely it's a very small leak like an o-ring.. so yes I recommend you put the dye first... Then that and tell you where your leak is at... If you are under the three 36,000 mi warranty.. dealer will fix it for free.. Please feel free to ask any more questions I'm glad to help

So the dye is separate from the freon... Once you find the leak and you made sure you fix it... You would need to add freon r1234... It could be any brand as long as it's r1234

wow that question says you need a lot more background into that project. you would probably do good seeking out a mechanic you can trust to handle it for you for a competitive price. if getting it fixed for a fair price is still out of your means than you should do alot more research first and get some good service information and read that first. best of luck to your condenser adventure.

check the compressor... when you turn on your vehicle and ac you should hear the ac compressor kick on and the clutch should be on .... your can hear the different sounds when the ac compressor is off vs being on... check that first... let me know what happens my brotha!

There is a 10 year extended warranty for the condenser on 2016-18 civics. Dealerships are going to try an scare you out of setting up an appointment for service by threatening to charge you a super high diagnostic fee. But fight them and tell them to fix it for free. Try and verify that it is indeed the condenser before you bring it to them.

Waiting for the low pressure side hose to come in. I bet they will try and pull another fast one. They're fucking scum. Good luck. Don't let them get away with it.

Yes but you need a specific hose made for the r1234yf refrigerant. You can add more gas but if you have no gas you most likely have a leak. This is why you add the dye first to find the leak to fix. I could be as little as a o Ring

you can see in the video that the AC aluminum condenser is leaking in multiple spots. These condensers are crap. It is not a safety item so not a recall candidate, AC is considered a convenience. But Honda did extend the warranty to 10 years. They know these condensers are bad. But they just replace with another one which will also fail in 2-3 years. They need to provide a more rugged condenser. Maybe welds are cracking, maybe the new R-1234yf refrigerant is too corrosive for this condenser and they get pinhole leaks. Either way Honda needs to provide a more robust condenser instead of just putting these crappy ones back in, which are going to fail again. Honda is hoping to get you past the 10 year point, when you will be on your own with a known defect. I have a 2007 Rav4 with no ac issues, so a condenser can last 17 years if it is designed and manufactured correctly. Our 2017 Honda Civic is on it's 3rd condenser, averaging 2-3 years before failure. That is unacceptable.

it's funny you say that because I used to hate Ford and them overcharging for shit especially with the death rattle going on with some of the F-150 model trucks. However, at least at my local Ford dealership, their customer service has definitely been 20/10 recently and I don't get the same bullshit I get from Honda's Service Center, Toyota's crappy salesmanship (they're friendly once you own a vehicle, but treat you like shit if you're just browsing), and some others I won't even bother mentioning. The Ford dealer just gave me the keys to their Shelby/Cobra Mustang GT and told me to go have fun, just bring it back in one piece before they close. No pushy salesmanship, just honest, down-to-earth, world-class customer service. The owner even came down to join us for a small Saturday BBQ in the evening to shoot the shit with us. Debating on just trading in my Civic at this point.
