Every Bite Shot KZbin video begins with Joanie saying, "What's sha'kin bacon?" and ends with, "Byeeeeee." What happened to the "Byeeeee."? Nobody does it like you! That's part of your signature. Anyway, practical, artful, and technical. You provide it all and that is why I look forward to visiting with you each Thursday morning.

So glad! And the "bye" got cut as a part of re-working format to increase viewer retention through the duration of a video, which in good news, is totally working

I’ve always been into my art and photography, I have always been steered away from going down the art route because it’s not a “real job” I worked in my fathers company for 5 years.. I felt very lost and lonely. I ended up telling him I needed to leave and moved to a new country! I have finally allowed myself to actually give photography a go. Thank you for being so open about your story and helpful. You keep me motivated to keep going.

Amazing video and channel. SO many of these tips apply to photography in general, not just food photography. Biggest point I think is knowing who is actually looking to hire, and what they want. Often times you'd think a restaurant owner is looking for pictures? Nope they're looking for ads and menus, either provide that, or find the middle man who will make use of your pictures

Solid advice, and thanks as always for using examples from your own business pre-youtube success. Much of this applies to other areas of commercial photography as well. It does get easier to approach businesses over time too, it was super scary for me at first, but now it feels casual. The market feels saturated, but now I've started to talk to small businesses in my town they all want images but don't know where to start. Also I can't stop thinking about colour theory while watching this after all the colour videos you've just done!

It's definitely a wild time in the photography space and I think we're only just starting to see another major shift in the way business is done. Here's to staying nimble, staying connected and keeping overhead low :)

The Bite Shot would you believe that literally minutes after watching this video, a local food focused PR company popped up on my IG feed? I’d never heard of them but they work with some of my favourite local companies so I’m go try and tee something up. This might be the Wild West, but there’s good money in it for the bold and brave!

Thank you very much for sharing such useful, down to earth, good practical tips and ideas to remember! Could you consider telling us one day about the photoshoot process of for example, restaurant menu? Like, how do you do the setup of the environment is dark, only has artifical lighting or ungly surroundings? What if the dishes are ugly? How long does it usually take to pictures, say 5? I imagine these days you're way quicker than when you started :) I am a pastry chef that's into photography, so I often take pictures of the cakes I do at work for our social media accounts. I always struggle with limited probs and setup.. plus, I always feel like I take too long.. Damn, and how to take a good vertical picture of flat tarts?! Those drive me nuts.. If one day you have a spare moment, some answers would be highly appreciated! Thank you very much for what you do! Liene
