Thanks for stopping by! I came across a instagram profile I follow that gave some great tips for how to get involved during COVID times. Her name is Clara (@the.medisun.blog), and she's an MS1 at Case Western! instagram.com/stories/highlights/18062807020237218/ - highlight reel of some activities to do instagram.com/p/CB_DzDrhFUF/ - post about what to do during pre-med summers Clara recommended to get involved w virtual volunteering (crisistextline, tutoring possibly for kids of healthcare/frontline workers), PPE distribution events, learn python/programming (as a skill for future research involvements), ask local hospitals how you can help, and ask a Dr. to video call in place of shadowing to get an inside look into their profession. do you think its a red flag if i mainly have paid clinical experience? im currently in an emt class bc i plan on being an emt until i apply ... bc i kinda need to work at the same time to pay for tuition so my ratio for paid:unpaid clinical hours might be really off 😔 im still doing unpaid volunteering but its not really “consistent” (like ive been to a few senior centers to help out but thats it... its fun tho!!) ... bc mainly im volunteering for non clinical stuff instead (like helping deliver goods during covid) 😔 i dont really know how to balance everything thats required bc i still have to fit in research, clubs im already in, school work, etc....

I'm not too sure, but I'd assume that there isn't a ratio adcom sees/compares between your experiences. Definitely take care of the non-negotiables like supporting finances depending on your specific circumstances. Clinical experience, whether it's paid pr unpaid, is clinical experience! I think it's moreso a classification for AMCAS, but as long as you gain experience and grow, then that is an invaluable activity. I def feel like I 'had to do everything' and overloaded, but what I wish I did was - secure solid study habits, choose 1 quality 'new' activity each quarter or couple of quarters (they add up over time!), and hone down on maybe 2-3 activities that mean a lot to you and your story. Quality involvement definitely supersedes #!

Dr. Gray - medicalschoolhq.net/adg-92-ask-dr-gray-premed-qa-clarifying-clinical-experience-what-counts/ I think the general consensus is that it depends on your role , but it's generally not considered a clincial experience. I hope those sources help clarify!
