Thank you! I'm in NSW Australia and I can clearly see with my eyes, the Crux constellation with the nearby two bright stars of Centaurus. Most nights I could see the whole of the Orion constellation too. Excellent field of study which I believe will come into greater popularity as the years go by.

I have always wanted to see Crux after reading about it in H.A.Rey's "The Stars". While in southwest Florida just after Christmas I had an excellent, unobstructed view of the Southern horizon. I woke up at 6:00 AM, just before sunrise, and saw the northernmost bright star in Crux. It was also cool to see Archernar, a surprisingly bright star in the otherwise unremarkable Eridanus. I saw this in Hawaii as well last October. And, of course, it is so cool to see Canopus, low on the horizon as it is, in southern Florida. Being from New England, I only read about these stars. It's remarkable how much the night sky that I take for granted can change over the latitudes. Now living in Northern California, the Big Dipper actually sets here! But, Orion and Canis Major are so much higher in the southern sky! Thank you for your videos. Very well done!!!

I live in central Peru and Southern Cross is visible during summer and fall. Even with light pollution the pattern is very clear, along with Alpha and Beta Centauri. I would love a video about Centaurus but specially about former constellation Argo Navis (this one is also visible during summer, but to me it is incredibly difficult to spot "the ship"). Great channel, congrats!!

I've actually have two videos on Centaurus coming out in the next couple of week. @@learnthesky Looking forward for the Centaurus videos! There are great places to watch stars either in Peru or Northern Chile (where most scientific observatories are located in South America). Anywhere near the Atacama Desert, it's a great spot. Thanks for planning on the extinct constelattions! I only get to identify Canopus in Argo Navis (even though there are lots of stars around it), I simply don't see the pattern.

If a traveler is located more than 20 degrees north latitude, wants to travel south but cannot see the Southern Cross, he or she can simply find the North Star first, and then travel towards the opposite direction. East Asia traders in early modern times might have used this method to journey around the great wild (present day Hubei) towards Hong Kong. Being able to see the Southern Cross just above the horizon is also an indicator that Hong Kong should be only miles away.

I feel lucky I am able to see these stars (and clusters) most nights because a lot of these commenters wish to see crux. Fun fact 1: southern cross does not set in New Zealand. Fun fact 2: the pointer stars point to crux right? Go the other way and you’ll end up in Scorpio (well, pretty close). I would like to see North star because we do not have a southern equivalent.
