Note: it works nicely only for numbers that are cubed integers. For example 25 is a cubed integer and makes 15625, but if you had to calculate the cube root of 15626 then it won't work because you'd get 26 which is 17576 when cubed.

I've been trying to apply this to numbers in the 1000s, such as the cube root of 4000, which should be around 15.85 or something like that, but your method never seems to produce the correct answer. Even if it ended up as a decimal, it should work, but instead, I find myself having to multiply it out manually. The trick in this video only works with perfect cubes. For non-perfect cubes you'll have to actually perform a cube root process; with larger numbers it can help to first take it in scientific notation, divide the exponent by three, and use the remainder to scale the significant digits up those number of places where you'd only have to find the cube root of a number with up to three significant digits above the decimal point (which fits in the mentioned table). 4,000 = 4*10^3; result will be cuberoot(4)*10^(3/3). A trick to finding an approximate for arbitrary roots is linear interpolation: 4 sits in between 1 and 8 about half way, so about 1.5. Advancing the approximate to find the true root, there's Newton's method of square root adjusted for cube root, which iterates with the formula (n/a^2+2a)/3 to find a new approximate, with 'a' being the old approximate. Two iterations from a=1.5 with n=4 make 1.5874*10^1 or 15.874.

@@adamp9553 you can use a "long division" type method. these are taught on a few vids on you tube, but are never made to be practical. Dont really know why. It is always: "After a few digits it becomes so cumbersome as to be tediously impractical". This is, of course, not so I assure you that you can learn to find the cube root of any number to seven digit accuracy, and take only 8 to 10 minutes every time. And on a card of only 4 x 6 inches. To 10 digit accuracy in 15 to 20 minutes on about 2/3rds of a standard sheet. What is the CR of 289 104. 372 567.093 111 488 to seven places accuracy? I just did it in less than 9 minutes, no calculators, no erasing, no "savant abilities" -- just some simple addition, subtraction, multiplication of quite small numbers, and some mental division to estimate the next digit Seems that none of these professors showing the LD method on you tube are capable of thinking outside the box, as I have never seen my method demod in any video

It seems the method only really works for integer solutions up to 99 (possibly 100?). For what it's worth, however, you get a little closer to the correct answer in your example if you discard the final *_three_* digits (412), as instructed in the video, rather than just two. Then you are working with 72 (not 724), which generates a first digit for the solution of 4. That will give a result of 48 - still wrong, but less wrong than 88!
