Goldfields Guide

One of the best ways to see the extensive footprints left behind by the rich mining history of the Victorian Goldfields is through Google Earth!
Today I’m going to quickly show you and talk about some of the many different remnants that are left over from Victoria’s busy mining days, including what they are, how they appear from above, and what they look like in person.
Now, I spend a ridiculous amount of time cruising around on Google Earth looking at historical sites. I know there’s got to be plenty of other people out there who do the exact same thing, and if you’re watching this video, there’s a good chance you’re one of em, so welcome! You’re among friends.
I'd like to give a shout out to ‪@OzGeologyOfficial‬ with many thanks for kindly providing the incredible drone footage used in this video of some old diggings in the Golden Triangle.

I watched 16 seconds of this video, opened Google Earth and checked out an area I was told there was still large gold. I spent two weeks down there and while I did find the obvious diggings I completely missed the old camp sites and not so obvious diggings. I didn't find any gold because I was in the wrong area. Now I've got a 6000 I'm going back there. Great Video but I'd steer clear of cyanide areas. lol.

👍 i was just looking Majorca lead on goggle yesterday, mates got a property just down from the lead on McCallum creek, lots of battery sand covering the gravels going off the maps there are a fair few cyanide plants up stream. As soon as I seen your footage I recognised those holes. Well done.

Well done 👍 Great summery and worth knowing. Google Earth, is one of my main tools in the search for potential alluvial ground when out and about. Pro-Tip ! In more remote locations and in WA for instance, you can identify more recently discovered alluvial areas via bulldozer/ loader scrapings. Be safe while out and about and always let someone know where you go and when to expect you back- the Australian outback is unforgiving and will kill you, if you are ill prepared 👍

@goldfieldsguide my apologies dam You Tube. I was watching another channel and relying to that video and your video played directly afterwards, then of course posted my comment on your feed. Tried desperately to back track where my comment went but it was all too late. Hehehe... Love your content also BTW, im guessing thats why your video played straight after..My random comment must have read very oddly. 😆

gold is one of if not the first provoker of greed in humans. It brings only bad energy and destroys the earth which is not ours to destroy so I will not be hunting gold in my time on this earth.

That is a good point to make. The lust for gold is sometimes the only way a poor person can make money. They make a living while others get rich on there sweat and death

Great summary of what to look for ..... the "history" button also provides info on how areas have changed. People need to be mindful that much of what was shown is on private property.
