Why isn't the piping layout of the home part of the home purchasing process...this is just a mess...trying to locate a Clean Out...the cleanout and plumbing system should be part of the home purchase...period....new to all of this, and this makes the most sense to me.... thank you for sharing this information as I'm trying to locate the clean out at my daughters home...there was an extension built on the front of the house..like a closed-in porch area...I hope they move the cleanout so it is outside of that closed in porch area......thank you for sharing your knowledge, very helpful...

I would like to thank you so much for your information. The poking in the soil with a solid penetrable object was invaluable. My neighbor showed me where his clean out was located. Both homes are pretty similar and i figured since we have culverts in the front the drainage will probably be going that way. I got up this morning and utilized a long crochet hook to poke into soil and was able to find it in less than five minutes. I watched a couple videos prior to yours and no one recommended using a plumbing pole or rebar. So I dug around last night and missed. However happy with success of finding it this morning. And because of your information I saved around $250 for a plumber to bring out the snake camera to find it. That was the only location technique that the plumbers were willing to use in my case. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I did what you said, I went to my neighbors house that looked like mine, theirs was still visible (thank goodness), I had to dig threw hard dirt but we found it just where you said it would be…2 feet from the gas meter. You saved us from installing a new one, again thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks for the video! We have a townhouse in Chicago built in 1943. I had roto rooter come out twice within a few weeks for a clogged mainline drain and they were unable to find the cleanout. They cleaned it out from the basement so, so far so good. They assumed we do not have one and want us to install a new one to fix the issue, possibly roots in the line. The neighbor has a cleanout sticking out in the front lawn on their side of our townhome. I appreciate that you showed what the cover looks like. No idea it could be a cast iron cover under the dirt like you were saying. Maybe we can get someone else to locate the cleanout before we spend 12k on a new install? 😓

Very helpful, thanks for the walkthru. Going to give this a try. Found the gas and water lines going out to the street on one side of the house, going to give this a try to find the cleanout. If there's no cleanout and just the sewage pipe, would you recommend adding a cleanout? Similar difficulty to setting a T on a PVC pipe? Never worked with ABS before

I've used 3 different septic companies in the past 7 yrs and all have pumped through the manhole thing...but I think I have a clog between the septic tank and my house so I need to find the lid So I can snake the inlet pipe. My house has the old septic system, one tank and was built in 74

What’s the difference between these and septic systems that have the concrete or plastic lid?

Kevin, thank you for your ?, the hidden sewer clean cap usually is for city sewer , where septic system that are not hooked up to the city system usually have the large concrete lids. God Bless

Thanks for the info. My house was built in 1983 and the city had a map showing where the cleanout is. Unfortunately its under the driveway concrete. I'm hesitant to break it up and not find it. Might have to pay a plumber to come in and find it.

I would double check this as I would find it hard to believe that they would pour the driveway over the clean out, also you might check the alley to see if you have a clean out there, also some cities I believe will add a clean out at the alley with out charging you. My mother's home was raised some years ago. Now we need to find the clean out but we think it is under the driveway or porch that was built. Home was built in 1971. The inspector should have caught this.
