Its actually much easier than that . Google earth will let you imprt maps and it will automatically size and set the map into the current location . I have 3 counties around my house of maps from 1913 . then you just select between the old map and current satellite image .

Great tip. I found several old home sites around my grandparents house that nobody had any idea they were ever there. Planning on going detecting once the snow goes away lol

This is the best tip/info on you tube for metal detecting bar none. I just picked up this app... and found some pre1945 maps from university of Texas in Austin.... works perfectly when layering over google satellite. thank you for the tip!

I've been doing this with google maps. Once I locate the structure I get the coordinates and stick them in my phone then go there on foot. I have a vid about it on my channel for any that care. Very good vid.

One thing you might not know but might want to mention is that this only works with newer generation iPads with 6.0 or higher operating systems. It won't work with first generation iPads.

Following is the website I use and it does the exact same thing that you are doing in about an 1/8 the time. The website is www.historicmapworks.com. It superimposes old historic maps on the current google maps with a simple search. On the home screen you enter the county or city that you are looking for the map. The search results will tell you the year of the map. Then select one of the maps. Once the map is brought up go to the bottom of the screen where it says overlay this map and click on historic earth basic (free version). It then overlays the map onto a current google map. On this screen to the right you can move the opacity slider back and forth and zoom the map in and out or choose hybrid, satellite. Hope this helps all of your viewers.
@88schwyptrlcar10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'll check it out.
@FourleafTV10 жыл бұрын
Historicmapworks is a great resource but the overlays are horrible. If you want to overlay an old plat map you need to do it yourself to be sure that it is accurate. I have studied some of the maps that historicmapworks "overlayed, and there were some with main roads that were off by half a mile.... NO BUENO! you are better off doing it yourself...

Hey, I just retired and have been wanting to get started in detecting. How do you go about getting permission to hunt in the places you find on the map.
@88schwyptrlcar10 жыл бұрын
You just have to ask bud! Practice in your yard. Make clean cuts and nice plugs. Last thing you want is to get permission then tear up someones yard. Ask people you know,...from work,..from church,...from anywhere. We like 1940's or older homes. Look up my video "Metal Detecting 101" and it gives helpful tips.

Great video but Lord Jesus if you own a Android tablet do not install superimpose app from the app store look at the reviews it doesn't work at all it will send you to advertisement hell. I'm sure some of your viewers are in the same boat if any one that has a Android & knows of another superimposed app please make a comment. Really enjoy your videos great time with your dad. I have a 9 year old daughter that loves going out with me metal detecting special times & memories that you will always remember. More importantly memories for them of being a great dad & for you a great son.
@88schwyptrlcar10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great feedback David. Detecting isn't about what you find......With us it's all about the adventure, where we go, and the good times you have. I've met people that would stab you in the back to gain access to a site,...I get away from those type of people. When you can have great family time and save relics from the past its a win win. Since you detect with your daughter you know what I'm talking about. She will remember that forever. =) Thanks for watching.
