how to find the cubic feet of a box/speaker box

When you go to find the cubic feet you first have to find out how thick your wood is than subtract the thickness of the wood to each of the lengths and then add them up and divide for the most effective way. Hope this helped anyone!

You also got to take into the equation how much the speaker displacement when mounting it. And I'm not sure if the specs that are recommended on a subwoofer already calculate that in when they recommend a certain size of box. I'm going to get some 10-in subwoofers and they call for .7 ft² per speaker but I don't know if they already calculated the speaker displacement or if I have to do that. Because the speaker displacement is on the specifications. So I know that factor. Most boxes I see are about 1 cubic foot so it's hard to find a prefab box that is exactly what it calls for.

let me ask you now if im using 3/4 inch mdf wood do i need to subtract the thickness of the wood ? or will i be fine doing what you did

yes you do all your figureing in inches then convert it into cubic feet thats were 1728 comes in becasue lets say you do length times with times hight in inches and you get 7893 you simply divide 7893 by 1728 you would get 4.6. and this means you have a box with 4.6 cubic feet of space in it, and 1728 is the amount of cubic inches are in a cubic foot. hope this helps

I need to make a sub box of 3.17 cubic feet ported and tuned to 32hz. Does that mean I can adjust the length width and height however I like as long as it makes 3.17 cubic feet in total or would it always be a specific measurement?

Yeah but wat if ur box has an awkward demention like 2 ht's & 2 wt like top depth is 18" total & ht 9"x 14" in the face where speakers goes it has a drop of 8/78 after the frist depth of 12" how can you conculate this help please?

a 12" cube is 1 cu.ft. larger than what you want but the speaker cone will use up some of that space.

if your subs call for a space of 3.5 than yes, however youre gonna be building a wall inside of a suv or van because thats 42 cubic ft.
