Another method here also: Equation of a str. line given the gradient/ slope and the 2 points or coordinates. = y - y¹ = m ( x -×¹ ) m = - 2, pts ( 5 , 3) = ( x¹ , y¹) y - 3 = - 2 ( x - 5) y - 3 = - 2x + 10 y = -2× +10 +3 y = -2× + 13.

​@c7e-y5m So, the first set of gibberish that daudaconteh used was a formula. We know that (5,3) has 5 in the X place, and Y in the 3 place. So we grab those numbers and shove them into daudaconteh's formula. The main thing to keep in mind, though, is that you only replace the second y and x with the numbers. I'll show you. Before: y-y=m(x-x) After: y-3=m(x-5) That three and five weren't there before but we replaced one of the y's with a three and one of the x's with a 5. Now, we have this: y-3=m(x-5) There is an m. That means we need to plug in the slope. The word problem from the video said that the slope was -2. So we just place -2 into our formula. Now we have: y-3=-2(x-5) Now, just do the math. Multiply negative two by x and then negative five. Now we have: y-3=-2x+10 You're almost there. Now you need to grab that negative three and take it from the left side of the equation and bring it to the right side. DON'T FORGET TO MAKE IT A POSITIVE THREE!!! Add the +3 to the 10 and let's see what we've got. Now we have: y=-2x+13 Good job padawan

Guys for those who is confused about how he got 13=b is you needed to transposse the -10 to become positive. Remember. After you multiply the X and the Slope. You always have to transfer after you Multiply them. So just an example here The Slope is:(5) And Point the(-6,3) So we're gonna use y=mx + b(this is our formula) So our Y is 3, the slope is 5, and the x is -6, so 3=5(-6)+b 5 multiplied by -6 is -30 So its gonna be 3=-30+b, now the next method is common. For students to make mistakes about what to do next. After we multiply the Slope to our X Value. We're gonna always transspose the -30 or the Value we Multiplied. So transposse -30 it will become 30 since its negative it will become positive. So 3+30=b. Remember. After you transposse we can write the operation which is positive. After we transposse we can already subtract or add the numbers depending on the operation. For thos who dont get it how our operation becomes positive is because when the negative is transposed into positive our operation that we're going to use is positive(the new operation since positive means Plus or Adding) so 3+30 is 33 so b=33 So its y= (to the slope which is 5) Y=5x (always remember to put x to the right side of our Slope) and then the Value of B which is 33 So Y=5x+(since it's positive) 33 So Y=5x+33 :))

You actually can solve this question with differential calculus Since the derivative is the slope of the tangent line, integrating the slope they give you (-2) gives you an equation for the original line (y=-2x + C) Then you plug in the given values for y and x to solve for C, and then since y=-2x + C is in the form y=mx+b, C is the y-intercept

I think there's an easier way. You know the slope is -2, so a, b, c. But can't be d. But also can't be a because not through origin. So just b, c. Plug in the coordinates into b which obviously doesn't work, so c. Double check and c works.

Nothing wrong with the technique used here, but something a little more straight forward is to use point-slope form for linear equations: y-y₁=m(x-x₁) No need to find 'b'. Just plug n' chug!

Once we get y = -2x+b from slope m = -2, we eliminate option D. Then, plug in x=5 & y=3 into each of the other equations (options A-C) to see which one becomes a true statement. The evaluation of simple expressions with relatively small numbers goes VERY fast; don't underestimate the guess-and-check method of problem solving, especially if you're paying attention and use the results of missed guesses to make better guesses.
