Great vids Daz, just starting out myself so your content has been amazing for getting familiar. Had a couple of hours in North Wales last week and got about 10 specks so made up to have my first pieces but now I want MORE! Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures this year. Going to head over to where I think you are in this vid soon so appreciate any hints and tips for this river.

Hello DE....and thank you for your comments. It's a great hobby I'm sure you will agree and one that you will always be researching and trying to learn about every aspect of it. I like this river because of the Mudstone which has very fine fissures and cracks in it. The gold seems to be hidden there rather than in the gravels. The line the heavier materials takes down the river is also a very fine one. It seems to hug the sides more. Let us know how you get with your future trips out pal. Regards MrDazP1

As you say, even if all you find is one speck - it's special. People getting into the hobby in this country from a monetary perspective are in it for the wrong reasons. There's a lot more to it than the gold that makes it an enjoyable hobby. The makeup of that river is awesome mate. Cracking video, keep em coming. DT

Cheers DT, this river is normally so much wider and more flowing on the occasions I have visited it and I was gob smacked by how beautiful it looked. But yes I totally agree with your sentiments and I get the feeling there are quite few people in the UK who are keen to give it a go. I still believe that making these videos should offer them a realistic account of what to expect and what other aspects of the great outdoors it offers. That video with you doing an intro half way up Glencoe with the backdrop is still a sight for sore eyes pal........was that this year ?

Cheers Steve, it's a great hobby, look for the tightly compacted river gravels in the bedrock crevices. Clear them with a crowbar and pan the heavy concentrates out. Check the gravels behind large boulders too. Also do test pans across gravel bars on the inside bend. The gold will travel in a line down the river. That's the gold line and potential pay streak . It's just a case of finding where the gold line is. There's lots to learn and all the best of luck pal.

Hello David. The Black sands are a good sign in general terms and also mean that you are able to pan fine heavies. I am yet to get to Nenthead but that location should have a lot of potential. Great. I'm going to have to get back up there when I can. I've had about a dozen days panning in the Aire valley since lockdown & I haven't found a sausage! Going to try the Wharfe again tomorrow, as at least I know there's a bit of the shiny stuff there! 😀

Hello Phil, I know the Aire valley quite well from my cycling jaunts and the same with the Wharfe. I can't remember who told me to try the high ground near the Cow & calf near Ilkley but that will feed into the Wharfe. What's the geology like down there ?, is it Limestone or has the mud stone emerged.
@philbrotherton5720
@philbrotherton5720 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures It was me who mentioned the Cow & Calf. I live on the other side of the moor near Keighley & I've been panning most of the streams that flow off the moor & into the Aire. The moor is gritstone, but the composition of the gritstone is different throughout the moor. The stream that I've found a few specks in is below an area where the grit is absolutely full of small quartz crystals. There is more gold in the Wharfe, but it probably originates from the old mines further upstream. If you ever get to Grassington, the folk museum has a specimen jar full of locally found gold!!!

Hello Lewis, the local geology in our neck of the Pennines doesn't contain gold in the native rock. There will be lead and the silver associated with it in some areas. The likelihood of gold being found in West Yorkshire may well come from glacial deposition from one of the many ice ages, which take place approximately every 100,000 years. They do say that there could be gold in every river but when you go to a gold bearing river it is literally visible in every pan. North Wales, southern Scotland, Tyndrum, Montrose and Baile an Or definitely have gold in abundance amongst many other locations.

@MrDazP1adv3ntures
@MrDazP1adv3ntures 4 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I would say a great day out is well over a gram maybe 2 or 3 grams and you are on to something epic. Typically 0.5g to 1.0g is good but don't be surprised if you find 0.1g some days. Personally I'm not bothered so long as I have a great out. You might meet other prospectors who find lots more but when you film and try to tell the story you are always losing valuable time sluicing. I never hit the ground running either from the crack of dawn until the end of the day ( It's just so hard work )

You are not too far from potential spots there, I can't confirm this because I haven't checked the places out myself. I would also try to find some reports on line from The British Geological society where they may give you confirmed gold occurrences in panned concentrates. Other than that look for the bedrock on the inside of a bend and keep working the gravels until you get to the very bottom . The gold line could be inches wide too. So test pans are key.

What's with the glass breaking sound over and over during you showing off your gear? That scared me multiple times.

Hello Clint, when I arrived at the river there were signs clearly saying no fishing or private fishing . I looked high and low for the no gold panning signs but couldn't see any.

I’ve found gold in St Helens of all places I dug down to clay, broke it up and panned it out, found lots of quarts and a few micro pieces. I’ve put a photo up on Twitter @ian21104
