Today I'm sharing my coat guide. This coat guide will help you find the best winter coat that you can wear for years to come. I've linked the 5 coats in my own collection below for you and thank you so much for watching xx Audrey
WHAT I'M WEARING:
Blue Silk Shirt: Mott & Bow* gifted bit.ly/2tr7apA
Signet Ring: Ruffs Signet Rings www.ruffs.co.uk/ *gifted after being on my wish list for years. Highly recommend for signets. I wear mine every day
Earrings: Vintage
MY COATS
Brooks Brothers Camel Coat: Purchased over 7 years ago on super sale, similar here bit.ly/2sPgqUh and some amazing pre-owned ones here bit.ly/2NbbHn9
Brooks Brothers Black Coat: Also purchased over 7 years ago on super sale and until 2018 these were the only coats in my wardrobe
Plaid Coat: Thrifted and tailored to suit me
The Curated Classic Camel Coat: I was gifted this gorgeous coat at the end of 2018 after I discovered Nicola (the founder) on instagram. I have the classic coat in S because when I received it she didn't offer XS yet but it fits me very well. I've heard that the XS is shorter and not smaller over all so the XS and S are almost the same size minus a few inches in the overall length bit.ly/37C0BPw
The Curated Tailored Coat: I was also gifted this gorgeous coat about 2 months ago and it's fantastic! The same lovely material as the classic camel coat but in a size XS and it fits my 5'3" petite frame perfectly. I also love the dark charcoal color bit.ly/2tuxkYm

I can't wear most wool coats, especially 100% wool, because my skin is sensitive and I get itchy really quickly around the neck. Do you have suggestions for alternative materials that can still keep you warm in the winter without being itchy?

Florence Yuan Hi Florence, I have the same problem Some times a scarf can help, use a large square one Fold to a triangle wear with the point to the back. Alternatively I now choose good quality quilted coats Which are light weight warm and non itchy. Hope this helps. 🌺

I have the same problem, although I've discovered it's not that way with every wool coat that I've tried on so I'm not sure what the difference is. Right now I have one that's a wool and Cashmere mix that I love because it's softer but also very warm. I wear a scarf around the neck to keep the coat from rubbing my skin and that seems to be working. Hope that helps

There are of course synthetic alternatives to wool, but in my opinion, they are not as warm and don't last as long. If you can't wear wool because of irritated skin, you could look for a coat that is fully lined in a fabric that you can tolerate, and that has a contrasting collar in a fabric that you can tolerate too, because those are the points that are touching your skin. That way the body of the coat is made of wool and nice and warm, while none of it is touching your skin. Also, I know wool has the name of being itchy, but not all wool is. Courser, cheaper wool is very itchy, but other wools are a lot softer. It depends on both the quality of the wool and the weave of the fabric. Try and feel some different wools, see how you react to the differences. Of course, some people have an allergy to wool, and some people don't want to wear it because they are vegan. I'm sorry, I don't have any tips for you, but maybe some other people here do.

most important coat rule: when you buy a new coat that has a slit in the back the slit is often stitched together with one big cross stitch, please remove those stitches. A lot of people don’t do that and it looks so awkward when you see them walking down the street. 🤔

True! My friend volunteered in a donation clothing shop and she even found safety stitched pocjets on half of the items. It especially looks weird when girls with wider hips need that fabric for the width...

Honestly as a young woman, I hated taking out the stitch because when I would sit, there would always be one side that would crease up and stay there after several sits.

I love all your coats! I’m a thrifter and recently bought a gorgeous vintage 100% wool dress coat that hits below my calves in a gorgeous dark emerald green (my signature color in my wardrobe) in amazing condition that fits like it’s tailored to me for $4!!! I have a black cashmere dress coat, a camel coat, and my green coat that are all wool and I spent less than $20 total for all three so I highly recommend thrifting and especially look for vintage coats because the quality can’t be beat!

One thing about coats, if the pockets are lined with a more delicate fabric, don't put your keys in them! They will work as little saws and rip the fabric. Also, if lined, check the lining for rips periodically and repair quickly before it becomes an issue. Having to replace the lining of a coat is very expensive if you can find anyone to do it for you.
@MA-vf2ir

So true, but I can’t help it - I need the functionality. Thankfully, I have a good tailor who can repair the rips (which I usually find by noticing that my keys fell through to the bottom of the coat interior).

Very good info. I have a full length herringbone tweed coat I bought from Nordstrom 20 years ago. I've had it reclined (not cheap, but worth it) and the buttonholes resewn, and it looks virtually new. It's the warmest coat I own, and you can't beat it in cost per wear

I love a good winter coat. If you are allowed, go through your mum or Nan's wardrobes, you'll be amazed at what they have hiding behind all that stuff. I have a lovely heavy wintergreen herringbone coat that belonged to my late mum - will never give that up ever. And recently I got a tan trench coat(I needed a raincoat) for half price: $5.00 from a Salvation Army store in Victory Harbor SA. By the way, it's summer here in NZ, a good time to air out or dry clean my coats ready for winter. Love your content, Audrey.

These are all helpful hints. I too am 5’3. It is not easy to find a petite or petite friendly coat. Wool is so much better quality than a polyester coat. I have both. A good quality wool coat in a classic style will last a lifetime and always be fashionable.

First of all, Happy New Year 2020 for you Audrey! Love all your coats and your channel in general, with true & authentic sense of elegance and style that are valid regardless of times. I am rather small at 166 cm with short legs and stocky silhouette, but always dreamed of dark green wool blend coat. Ordered one recently, but realized that the length is very important :) - I look even shorter and wider in coats passing half of my calves. Still searching for that perfect one. As autumn was not very cold, I wore my thrifted wool jacket a lot over a sweater or shirt with (also thrifted) cashmere cardigan - the jacket is oversize, in mixed colour palette of browns and violets. Thank you for all tips!

12 years ago, I bought two coats at a Black Friday sale (I long, black and one shorter, full tweed) and still use them to this day! I also have a three-year-old pink/white/brown ombre coat and a light blue trench. The black one is for snow and slush and the trench is for rain, but I find that there are plenty of "dress-up" opportunities for the others. I feel a little weird having so many coats in Tennessee, but my "collection" does help me save wear and tear on each of them and breaks the monotony of winter.

Can definitely confirm. A light cashmere longsleeve is as good as a heavy wool pullover. The problem is that cashmere is so expensive that it is usually mixed with other fibres which then affect the warm-keeping quality of the entire piece.

I am a teacher and now that I am only working at one school I don't have to tote so many things around anymore so I find I might be able to have something more sophisticated other than my book bag 🤷🏾‍♀️

one thing i discovered is that having a coat custom made can actually be a great money saver. i have a brown acetate coat with mink collar and cuffs that has a fur lining that can be zipped inside. alternately it has a silk lining for slightly chilly days. it can also be worn without either lining as a rain coat. i've had it over 20 years and is the best $1500 i ever spent.

jcrew has my favorite coats. They are timeless and affordable. Bonus, they have petites.

Would you be able to do a guide on different types of wool coats? It seems like some wool coats are super heavy... I am confused if I should buy wool, wool blend, boiled wool, etc.

I mainly have zip-up jackets in my collection right now as they're the most practical for the unpredictable Tennessee weather, so having a coat isn't something that's necessary for my lifestyle right now. However, I do appreciate the amount of effort you've put into making this video, Audrey! I'll be sure to reference this video if I move somewhere with colder temperatures :)

Nordstrom has a sale on coats right now. Up to 65% off. If you are looking for designer pieces Lyst? And net a porter have a sale on coats as well. Also if you live in the eastern half of the US Dillard’s and Belk department stores have their coats on sale. They sell some different things between there s physical store and online so if at all possible check both.

Thanks for the video! I have found a wool coat I really like, beautiful red color and high wool content. However, it’s single breasted and doesn’t have an extra button to close the lapels. Any tips on how I can style it to stay warm? I’d prefer not to have to hold it closed all the time. I love everything else about the coat and think others look so stylish in that style, but I worry about freezing around my neck and upper chest. I live in Denmark, so the weather is mostly quite temperate, but we do get snow and ice during the winter season.

What coat do you suggest I’m the same height as you wear only dresses and skirts and kind of pear shaped? I don’t like the look of long coats on me. I’m looking for a dressy coat and winter coat for snow and boots that go with my style I listed. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. :)

As someone on a budget, I really struggle between something stylish (like wool) and a "puffer" coat (down) I've been wearing a puffer coat for a few years now, but feel like a bag lady! I wish I could afford a coat for every season but what is the best choice? I am a petite woman so also need something that is not incredibly long~~

Can you please make a video for Doctors essential clothes. I am from Asia(India) so except our traditional outfits I wanna to know more comfortable yet stylish dressing trends which i can wear on my daily basis. There are less videos for doctors Essential dress.

One tip that I think you overlooked is "don't hesitate to have your coat tailored." I am only 5 feet tall and was lucky enough to find an alpaca coat in a petite size but the sleeves were uneven. I took it to the tailor and have been wearing it for four years!

How do you determine if a coat is warm enough for winter? I would like to buy a coat but all the coats seem too thin to get me through winter? The coldest winter day would be around 5°C in my country.

Hello. Really liked your video and your ideas. Didn't see that in any other channel. The thing which is bothering me is that I got a long light grey coat.. It is somewhat white grey.. As I am a petite so the whole coat is of my height. So I'm unsure whether I will be able to carry it out or not.. What do you think would be a flattering length for me.. Also I am slimmer.. So can you suggest me something please. Should I get it hemmed up or not?
