Hey Danny. Thx for the reply, I appreciate all feedback. In short, I really wish the decision was as easy as you make it sound but it wasn't. It was something I sat with for weeks weighing all the reasons, one of which you mentioned. However, there was more than one reason but the biggest one being was the future of my channel. In order to grow and reach a more people (especially beginners) I had to make the change. If you see value in my videos, I know you will see past the DAW. Thanks

Hey thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes I made the instrumental a little while ago.

Im not sure that's something I can explain in a comment because every song is different. The only thing I could suggest is to recognize the song structure and then go to a section of the song where drums are present (the chorus might be best place to start). Then take the first hit (downbeat) of the chorus and then use that as a starting point for finding the tempo. If its mainly live played you wont be able to line the grid up perfect unless you customize it which is for another lesson.

It surely was no mistake to subscribe. I just learned awesome keyboard shortcuts :D Thank you guys :) It's funny... I do my business for about 10 years now and it seems that I still learn new stuff each day. You got my vote again

This continues to be one of the toughest problems for me to get my head around. I don't understand "tapping". It sounds easy but I'm a guitar player not a drummer and while I get 4/4 beats, tempos are still tricky. Thanks for your video. If there are other approaches, I'd appreciate hearing more about them. Thanks.

Never tried Samplitude but I have used Cubase. Although not long enough to make a fair judgement about it. Pro Tools is the standard in most studios so transferring sessions is more convenient. But a lot of other DAW's had functions Pro Tools Native added only recently. But go to my site and read "Which Daw sounds the best?" It should help you. I'd say just pick one and know it inside out because one isn't actually better or worse, just different. Good Luck!

Thanks for the Great info!! I must admit I know enough in Pro Tools to get the job done but sounds like you know quite a lot of shortcuts. I will have to sharpen my skills. Thanks again!! Happy Mixing.

Its just the same thing as tapping your foot to a song you like. Generally its natural to tap along to every quarter beat. Once you tap with your instrumental, Pro Tools will give you an average BPM based on your tapping. You would normally have to adjust afterwards.

thanks for the "B" tip :). I find the tab to transient doesn't quite end up where I want it to. Some shortcuts aren't always useful ;)

For finding tempos that need to track on less than perfect quantization music try this. 1. make the first downbeat of the song as in this vid. 2. Find the next downbeat of the song and Tab to Transient to that down beat. 3. Cmd +i / Ctrl +i for identify beet window. 4. Now set that actual bar of your song. (second down beat = "2") {global time is now set.} 5. Repeat step 2-4 to insert new time markers as or if necessary. Works great for songs that are not perfect or that change tempo. GL all!

I think my real problem is understanding how to determine the first downbeat. If you can provide a few pointers I'd be thankful Justin. Thanks.

usually, I like to record midi live, and, so, I don't worry about absolute sync there or with keyboads, guitar (VST I mean, here, ) but, patterns, I can see that people will want to synch that more with modern pattern based music of many new genre or mixes thereof. And,it's something I need to learn to for example use a Thor Bass or Keyboard pattern to sync better to other's cover, as remix vs orgininal. Plenty to learn &, I have no room left to install Protools LE, 24bit, I have but useful info

I just did a quick google search on "Pro Tools stop working" and it came with with a few possibilities as to why its not working. You are going to have to use trial and error to figure out which problem it is.To be honest with you I would just contact Avid and get them to diagnose the problem with you because it would be the fastest to a solution. I have never had that issue with Pro Tools so I can't really be of any help.

If you are then going to synch a drum VST or midi track one made of patterns, ect that is good info to have but, are there not, I'm not sure but, think so, automatic beat and tempo algorythms as well, in DAWs like Reason or Fruity Loops/Studio 10, that sense the rythm or can derive it, 'get groove,' ect and then automatically adjust the drum parts to these groove patterns and tempos you are looking at, atleast with MIDI; ( I'm not sure about drum loops either in WAV, typically at 120bpm?) thx U

I have been trying to find the tempo to a beat for almost an hour lol. When I play the original beat its really fast and I cant get it to hit that speed on protools. I try to tap to the beat but I dont think I fully understand what you mean. If you could help me I would really appreciate it. I've been learning all the plugins and how to use them but if the beats tempo is off then I am lost.

The video is great, but why did you switch to Pro Tools? There are soo many videos in pro tools, finally one in Sonar ,Then you get the cry babies wanting the daw to be pro tools and you gave in. Now I will have to rethink watching your videos. It was nice finally having to see the work implemented in Sonar.
