Hey man quite new to the hobby and learning about it. With so many comic books out there with crazy amounts of key books which are valuable. how do it begin to learn to remember the books which are valuable. I mean I've seen loads of videos where people are picking up these books and know what's the key and the value etc. What can I do to get better. ? Secondly I just began reading comics and thinking about collecting keys. With my limited knowledge is it better to read first (I read digitally) and from the ones that I read I pick up the keys that I like . Would that be a better approach than memorizing and picking up keys what would be your advice?
@paperchasecomicsАй бұрын
Watch a lot of videos of people buying collections and study key collector app. This will Help you gain knowledge on the standard keys in the market that way when you stumble across them you know what’s what. Other than that… read when you want, don’t let market dictate when you should read. And as far as what to buy?? buy what makes you happy and buy what you know is valuable at a good deal, so you can resell and fund the hobby.
@aaqibazeez6753Ай бұрын
@@paperchasecomics this is some solid advice . So reading and collecting are 2 different aspects of the hobby . Buy what you like and read what you like . And also buy valuable books to fund the hobby

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I TOTALLY FORGOT THE 1990'S COMIC CRASH.WITH MARVEL GOING INTO BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION.I THINK WHAT CAUSED THESE CRASHES WAS THE INCREASE IN COMIC PRICES LEADING TO LOWER SALES & REDUCED PRINT-RUNS.'90'S- NOW BOOKS ARE FROM $3-$10 EACH.ROUGHLY FROM .10 CENTS TO $7 NOW EACH.WHAT WAS THE 2ND COMIC CRASH?
@kitescuriosities77176 ай бұрын
You hit all the ones that I do - look for #1 issues, look for “introducing” verbiage on the covers, etc. One that doesn’t always work but sometimes does is finding issues with like a romantic scene on the cover or where a character is grieving the death of someone. It’s not always the case, but many times that is a key issue.

Hey man love the videos . Quite new to comic books and love the idea of comic book collecting . However one question that I want to ask is how do people like you go into the dollar bin and look and shuffle through comic books and find keys . There’s so many books , how does one get better at remembering which comic books are keys and be able to shuffle through boxes like a pro. Anything I can do to become better at this ?? Would really appreciate your advice

I don’t know about the Goodwill site. I’ll have to check that out. I’ve been to Five and Below and Ollie’s because I’ve seen some YT vids about them selling comics. I didn’t find any at the stores I went to though. It might just be because of my area. Thanks for the tips. Informative as always. Love these videos.

Zim-Man, I think it is because of your area. But, it might also be because of your area’s stores, too. I have only found 1 FiveBelow store in my area that had comics, and it was only that 1 time I found them, too. Ollie’s always seems to have e a great selection, though my local Ollie’s got raided in a most disappointing way. Doing a video on that tonight.

I'm a big fan of knowing covers. I see people with key collector out while looking at books all the time. I feel like if people don't study, watch videos, keep track of pricing on Facebook/Instagram/eBay sales, they aren't doing themselves a service. As well, know your sweet spot. I know 70s-80s books a whole lot better than modern books, so unless I really know the modern book, I am passing.

About knowing covers, knowing the market helps, such as cover artists and content. Key artists covers sell for more. Content such a girlies and bondage also get a premium. Also look for later printings, if not indicated on the cover, inside page detail info. They are usually less printed and more desirable. Speaking of rarity, look at the barcode box. For older books, a slash thru the barcode meant it was direct (comic shop) which were scarce or no slash (newsstand) all over the place. Later when comic shops became more prevalent and mom and pop shops decreased, the opposite happened where the newsstand became more scarce than the direct.

I think it's important to be honest with the seller about the potential of a book and not take advantage of the innocent and the amateurs, especially kids, and even on e-Bay. I sold my 200 issue collection for a $100 when I was in high school because I needed the money for college and I don't want to do that to someone else. It was 45 years ago but I'll never forget that moment at the dealer shop when they said they couldn't pay more.

I understand that feeling. I feel its 100 percent a judgement call and you must read the situation. Bur remember….Times today are much different than when you were a kid. Most people have the knowledge in their hands with a few clicks. Its not your responsibility to do work for other because they dont feel like it. Read the situation… ive never made a purchase decision that ive lost sleep over. But if you feel you have a responsibility to even tell people on eBay that there stuff is under priced?… than you sir are a special type of saint. good for you! *side note, your childhood situation also sounded like you needed money soon. Theres a price for that. Its just how business works. To get top dollar on anything typically involves patience for the correct buyer

@@paperchasecomics An e-Bay dealer is one thing, but a kid on e-Bay or an elderly person at a garage sale, no way I'm taking advantage. I bought a raw Silver Surfer #1 on e-Bay a long while back. A kid had it listed as NM, when it was really a 7.0/8.0. It was his prized possession. I bought it fair priced for $255. I told him the truth on the grade and him to hold on to it, but he needed the money right away. I felt ok about that.
