How To Find Your VW Radio PIN Code And Get Out Of SAFE Mode

The title basically says it all. This method is used for all VW's, Audi's, Porsche's, Bently's and most other vehicle manufacturers that have radio PIN codes. The SAFE mode procedure may be slightly different in other vehicle manufacturers, but in all VW's, Audi's, Porsche's, Bently's, etc. this is the same. In this video, I show you how to find your PIN code for your radio. I also show how to get out of SAFE (lockout) mode so you can enter your PIN. You need a few things and about literally 2-3 mins of free time. First, you need radio removal keys that fit your radio. If you don't have them, you can order them online. Without them, you can't do what I show you in this video. Those keys only cost $10 max. You need your radio serial number and VIN so you can call the dealer and have them give you the correct PIN. I clearly understand your issue. However, I do think you are being a little unfair. First of all, your timing is wrong. You were about a minute off. Also, I'm saving you a lot of money. Taking about 12 minutes to watch this video in my opinion is worth it. No where in the title or description does it say that you will get the PIN code without calling the dealer. It says how to get your PIN. You need to call the dealer to get your PIN, which I state in this video.

I made this video because of companies that take advantage of people and charge them over $20 just to get a PIN. Why would anyone want to pay $20 when they can spend $5-10 (and keep the radio keys) and a few minutes of their time, to get the PIN themselves? You also forget, they get your PIN the same way, except you have to do all the work. You give them your serial number and your VIN, and they get your PIN from the dealer. Doesn't cost them anything, and they charge you $20+. Not my style.

I managed to find the radio pin code by using a VAG OBD2 code reader set for the Radio.

Hay man, this is way helpful, I plain on buying a used VW Passant. If the radio is not programed, or if I need to change out my battery some day this video will be of most use.

I am so pissed!! I wish i had known about this last year. My radio for some reason started reading this safe mode and I couldn't get it out of safe mode. I tried and tried and no luck. finally I had to give in and take it to the dealer near me in queens.. I felt like i was i violated after paying $100. Why do they insist on taking your money knowing very well that states in the owners manual that you can get this information about the code for free when you provide all the info.Thank you so much

You're welcome. I said the same thing myself. So I asked VW and they told me if I had the radio serial number and the VIN, I can get the PIN. So I ordered those radio keys for about $9 and they came the very next day. You saw how easy it was from there. Less than 3 mins.

Martin Thomson No, that's not what I'm saying. If you show them the serial number and proof you own the car (title, registration, etc.), they're supposed to give you the PIN for free. Since you did all the labor work yourself.If you hand them the serial number, there's no need for them to go and take out the radio and get it.

Damn who cares about calling the dealer? It takes 3-5 minutes to get the code from them for free.

When I replaced the battery in my 2002 Passat my radio went to SAFE mode and later went to LEARN and righted itself without me having to enter a code.

The seller should have the PIN. Be careful when dealing with private sellers. The reason for the PIN is if the radio is stolen, the thief can't use the radio they just stole. If they don't have it, use your judgment. If you do buy it and there isn't a PIN, just follow the rest of my instructions in the video after pulling out the radio. That sounded like we were going to get into a good analysis of how to grab this number from the VIN, that number from the radio serial number, add them together... blah, blah, blah... Clearly others have figured out the algorithm -- you can buy your PIN from them. I was hoping you had publicised it.

Excellent video, Ceasar. VW main dealers ought to be doing this sort of thing for free, especially as I have paid them £ 1600 over the past year in servicing work and also for work they didn't actually do. The dealer hourly rate is pretty much the same as with you, but in £ GB Pounds not $ US Dollars, so a complete rip off. Thanks to guys like you, the public are getting their own back. Thank you for this video I have a touareg without a navigation screen and I am planning to buy a second hand one. How can I get the pin in this case. Would the seller have it? In other words, is the pin related to the navigation screen or a new pin is needed whenever the navigation system is installed on a new vehicle. I would appreciate your feedback

Wow... would have been nice if you mentioned that you still need to call the Stealership, rather than having us wait until 6:15 to tell us that. Folks: to summarise, this video tells you: 1. how to remove the radio and get the radio serial # 2. how to reset "SAFE" mode from entering the wrong code 2-3 times 3. how to enter the code It does NOT tell you how to get the pin code without calling the dealer.

Yes, it is normally a 4 digit code. I have yet to come across any other type of code.

My local VW wants to charge me $72.99 for the code, even though I have both the serial number (thanks to this video) and the VIN. Basically, they want to charge 1/2 hour labour just for the time it takes them to enter in the info I retrieved get me the code. Since my local VW dealer isn't much help without paying through the nose, what is my next best option?

Scott Baptist Sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner. Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do. They're supposed to give it to you for free since you did all the labor work. You can try calling VW themselves and explain what's going on. I've also heard of services that are offered on ebay or online where you pay $10 or so and they get the code for you. Not the way I would go, but putting it out there.
