How to fire a gun (or any animation) with gestures in VRChat

A quick demonstration of how to play any animation with hand gestures, such as fireing a gun.

In case your gun snaps back to your hip when shooting: This has something to do with write defaults. I forgor that many people still use that. Try copying all the keyframes from the "equip gun" animations into the "shoot" animation aswell (the parent constraint animation keyframes)

I was doing over complex stuff with pram drivers and such. It makes so much sense just to have 3 states on hip - drawn if drawn and gesture = shooting Cool video will make my work flow way easyer

I've seen a few tutorials so far teaching the same content, but your videos are by far the most easy to understand. It's been so helpful going through these and slowly developing my avatar after I figure out what's going on! I wanted to ask, would it be possible to make a video on how to create a grabbable prop on your avatar which has two points of contact? for example, a rifle where your left hand connects with the front grip while your right hand is attached to the rear grip/trigger etc and the item is manipulated by the location of those two points

how would i make it so that when i select another weapon it doesn't activate the previous firing anim? as i got a ar and a sidarm but when i fire one and untoggle it to go to the other one, it fires the first anim with the current one Edit: forgot to mention that the toggles both have been set to bools so idk if that will make them clash or not

Hey I'm wanting to make a working air horn. I want to have it be a prop toggle. I'm wanting for it to toggle a gesture when having it toggled that looks like you're holding the air horn. But when you hit trigger, i want it to change the gesture to another one. Im also wanting to attach an air horn sound that you can toggle on and off that only plays on the trigger gesture. How would i go about making this work?

Can you make a tutorial for how to do this with an integer toggle? I'm trying to make it to where the gun can only shoot if I have it equipped but no matter what I do the shooting animation never actually plays

Mh, particles are really not my cup of tea, the best thing i can give to you here is pause the video and copy the parameters that i had, and look up some basic particle tutorials on youtube, there's plenty.

Yes sure that would work aswell. You can make a toggle that pulls it out, and then fire with a gesture or another action menu button

Yes! The only issue I seem to have is when ever I pull out the gun it fires automatically once and when I turn off the gun toggle it doesn't disappear unless I put out another gesture that isn't fist, those are the only 2 problems. But I can at least fire it now!

It didn't work for me. When I grab the gun and then shoot with a gesture it snaps back to the hip.

@@Airbee That worked for me! Thank you so much! Now I need to figure out how to make the animation not loop and only play once when I press the trigger. Because right now it keeps shooting like an automatic lol

could you do a video teaching how to make an ammo counter? for example, if you shoot X amount of times the gun will not fire until you reload.

In the top left of your animator window, you have 2 tabs called "Layers" and "Parameters". Switch to Parameters, add an Integer and call it GestureRight or GestureLeft, whatever you need or both
