People always used to ask the question where are you going to get ashes from before your first fire. Thank you, David, for showing us that you don't even need any ashes to use as a filler. Here we have dryish punk wood and before you have even done mullein leaves. It is quite amazing how you've answered that first question people had.

We’ve had lots of rain lately. All the punkwood around here is mostly wet with some dryer material on the very surface. Let me show you how to process this punkwood down into a powdery filler and use it in Cotton to make an easy fire roll ignition. And just as easy as that! Ha! If you practice every day like FireMaster David does. What is the principle behind this? Is it just the friction created between the two different flammable materials? It's like magic to me. I would really like to know why it works. I've been watching these Rudiger Roll videos (and all his other videos) for a while now. It's time for me to make one, even though I have trouble with process the cotton. Don't know exactly why, but cotton balls or swatches like this are to my body what nails on a chalk board are to ears. It's almost like an electrical shock going through my body. I'm going to try to deal with it, because this is one of the most interesting of all the fire starting methods to me. I need to practice fire making every day, like David West does.

Hi David! I have good luck when the material is coffee ground or finer consistency.

It makes a big difference. I suppose it helps it compact easier thereby making easier to ignite.

I always wonder how I would be able to do this in a wet forest with no flat table and finding a dry piece of wood for rolling the fire roll into flame. Definitely a challenge I want to try in the future. 😅

It would be very very difficult, but possible. If we ever got "Ukrained" in this Country, there would be cotton and 2x4s and flat surfaces everywhere. See my fire roll playlist.
