I watched this video on my phone while out fishing tonight. I just happened to have the exact same frog and reel. Tried like heck before watching to catch anything and no luck. This was the first video after searching for "how to fish a frog". I trimmed the tails and adjusted the hooks as you said. No more than 5 minutes later I caught a 4.52lb largemouth. God knew which video to show me. Thanks for the advice. Will definitely keep using it.

Got into fishing about three months ago, got me a little fishing kayak until I can get something better. Went out four times so far haven’t gotten skunked yet, the lake I like is Lake Springfield In Springfield Missouri and there’s a lot of cover and Lilly lads. I used this technique today and caught my first bass on a frog, greatly appreciate you sir. I like your channel because it’s factual fishing, in other words you show yourself catching fish using your techniques. It helps to get a visual, thanks again.

This is my favorite way to fish, especially at midnight. I'll have to try the added weight, but I wanted to throw my two cents in on your hookset. It took me a lot of misses before I figured out playing the waiting game. Now, when the fish smacks the bait, I drop my rod, take some slack, and raise it up again to feel if he's there. Trying to set too quickly is almost a guaranteed miss. Count; 2, 3, 4 seconds before you rip it. Then, where you are pulling over your shoulder, I have found a huge increase on hookset if, once I know he's there, I pull straight up. The hooks always seem to find the roof of his mouth, and I'm at about an 80% when the fish actually take the bait. That being said, thank you for all of your informative videos. I hope I see you on the lake one day. I love seeing people who can get as excited as I do about large mouth. If you're ever in PA, give me a shout.

Great video, I have been having a LOT of trouble setting the frog.. I tend to get 2 sets for every 20 hits. I know I need to wait before setting but still find myself trying to set right away, I have only been frog fishing this season and love it but its the mind set to wait to set I have to break. I have also been reading to not move the hooks as they are suppose to be fished in thick stuff and be weedless and if you do you will be bringing in a lot of weeds. I will be trying it with one of my frogs to see if this is true or not. You mentioned to walk the frog you just keep tapping, I am looking forward to trying that, what has been "working" for me is I pop the frog 3 times and pause for a couple seconds, rinse and repeat.. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work. Happy Fishing!!

Hey Gene. In the summer I only fished soft plastics and caught all of my big fish on them. Now that it is winter I can't seem to find the fish. I bank fish on a big farm pond with rivers. I can't use anything that dives more the 2 feet because there is seawood at the bottom. The plastics I have used were berkely havoc pit bosses, devil spears, bbb trick stick. I dipped all my baits in jjs, tried jerkbaits, dropshot and still nothing! The only bait fish in my lake are bluegills. There are some catfish and 1 eel. Any tips on what I should throw and color? I live in NJ.

I sent a bunch of your technique links to my friends in the Ottawa, ON area. The 3 year old grand son wants to learn. Your videos are the very best teachers.They report that he is mesmerized by your videos. My friends have a cottage on a shallow lake, roughly about 200 acres. The typical bass I catch runs between 3 and 5 pounds. Last summer I caught a nice size black crappie on a Walmart twin spin with a zoom salty super fkuke trailer . It had everything but the spinners in its mouth. If I get back next summer I will start fishing for crappie also. . Hopefully, they will subscribe and learn.. You have certainly opened my eyes to techniques that I have resisted. Thank you.. By the way.. I read somewhere that Chicamauga has beeb stocked with the Florida strain.

Hello Flukemaster. First I would like to thank you for all your great videos. I just started bass fishing this last summer. I caught my first small mouth (4lb), and I am afraid I am hooked... sorry bad pun. Anyways, I noticed that occasionally you run two GoPros. I know that you prefer not to wear one on your head since it is continuously turning, however, would you perhaps set one to where your casting? I would love to see how your lures are hitting the water, as well as how the fish are taking the bait. Plus as you describe the action on, say top water frogs, we could see it happening. Thanks again, your efforts are certainly teaching, as well as encouraging me to keep on fishing.
@Flukemaster10 жыл бұрын
I have tried that and the main problem is that the GoPro has no zoom so even if I point one at where I'm casting it is so far away that it can't be seen on film. I will start doing that the day I hire a cameraman and get a camera that can be zoomed. Sorry about that. That's the tough thing about doing this stuff on a budget.
@brents457610 жыл бұрын
Flukemaster Understandable, and your doing a fantastic job with what you got. Hit me up when that day come for hiring a cameraman, that would be a blast...Lol... although some training may be required, I am a quick study. Take care Fluke, looking forward to your next video.

Do you like those KVD cutters? I thought they would be ok but there is only about a 1/4" section where you can actually grab a hook. I actually bought them cause I needed split ring pliers in a pinch. It is easy to get on the rings but I was not a fan of that to much either. I will say though they cut are excellent cutters even with braid. I usually have to cut a few times to get through it but there not bad for what it is. The pliers part should be longer though and they would be way better IMO.

Hey Gene (hope i spelled it right) I wanted to get your opinion on something. I live in Florida on lake griffin which is part of the Harris chain. We had a very hot summer and got our first cold front on Oct 5th. our bite has been mainly on soft plastics such as zoom vibe, zoom speed, sweet beavers. well to get to the point of my question is we have found a sweet pattern but i don't really understand it. We have found that if we can get a wind blown shoreline with kissimmee grass or reeds we can SLAY the bass flippin, is there any reason for this or is just a pattern that is specific to the lake. Our water temps have been in the mid to high 80's and high 70's to low 80's early in the morning, bite is always slow unless the wind is whippin.
@Flukemaster10 жыл бұрын
there are a couple of things that pop into my head. Windblown banks have more oxygen due to the stired up water. The wind also pushes the plankton that they baitfish eat into the that part of the lake. The baitfish attract the bass and they move in to feed.

Hey Gene, what's the best way to avoid braid from digging in and backlashing on the next cast after you rip a bass through heavy slop? I've read loosen the drag a little and also make sure the braid is spooled very tight on your reel....to the point where you can't even get your fingernail in between the strans of the line.....is that pretty much it or is there something else I should try? I just started using braid and I'm using 50# Saaguar Smackdown on my frog rod. I was doing pretty good casting and retrieving....the issues I had were on the next cast after I dragged the fish through nasty heavy mats.
@Flukemaster9 жыл бұрын
David Talia It's one of those things that is going to happen. I've gotten into the habit of making cast out of the other side of the boat and pulling it out.
