From Brian: I was using a Redington Rise wide arbour reel.

What rod weight are you using?

From Brian: I like to use a 6 weight fly rod when fishing sinking lines with water boatman patterns. A 9 ft rod is also better than a 9.5 or 10 ft rod when casting with sinking lines.

I just use a deer hair Gomphus and it works just as well.
