For your first gi, there are two strategies for most of us. Either you buy the one your gym recommends (costly), or you try to figure out what your size is and buy accordingly. Unfortunately, if your build is outside the norm, loads of people won't know enough to guide you, and your gym may not have your size. I'm 6'4" and recently re-crossed the 300# limit (going down this time). I wear a size A-6. Many companies don't make this size. Some don't even make A-5. My first gi purchase was an Elite A-5. The pants were so tight I could barely get into them, and I definitely couldn't move in them; I had to wear sweatpants instead for the first few weeks. The top fit...but not well. Arms were JUST loose enough to use, and the thing never went over the chest right. The belt from it fits OK, a little loose on me now :) I gave away the pants to one guy and after a few months, the jacket to another. Hoping to change the belt for a different colored one in a few months; maybe an A-4 size (I wear size 42 pants again; it's been just over 10 years since I could do that - pull the tape measure tight enough it's almost 40, so that's progress even if I'm still just a little bit over 290#). After rolling with a black belt, I got a black Fuji A-6. I figured it wouldn't show the blood so much. It's been about a year, and I still have it. Fuji seems to think that everyone wearing that size has an enormous gut and spindly little legs, but at least the chest and shoulders are big enough. I've lost enough weight that I can wear the pants without going commando, but it's still not the greatest fit. Luckily, there are companies that sell gi pants and some of them are a bit more baggy. Performance Fight Gear is the one I have bought those from and also shin guards and other things; everything from them seems simple but very solid, which I appreciate. I've got 6 gis now but I'm reluctant to try any major manufacturer anymore. The Fuji is getting a bit worn; I got one unbranded gi that was advertised as an A-7 but the armholes are tight (it's a problem I have a fair bit with other clothing) and the pants were flimsy and have ripped. Four gis are by Jaguar Pro Gear - they're the most comfortable ones I've ever worn so far...no idea how durable they are going to be in the long run though (which is one reason I have 4 hehe). Everyone loves Shoyoroll but they don't make anything in my size. Everyone loves Origin but I'm a little concerned about the fit of the pants, and $250 is a fair investment. Anyways, it's a little easier to find stuff now than last year, but still not the easiest of tasks.

An A1 jacket and A2 pants fit me the best. Out of the gis I've tried, the Superare (which I got today) and Fujis fit me the best.

Wuestion to both: I feel like I train in a Gi thats slightly too big. How can I shrink it. I already washed it on 40 degrees after trainings.
@manoskalokairinos31593 жыл бұрын
Try 50-60 degrees PROGRESSIVELY - if you don't get the result you want on 50, then next wash go with 60. Afterwards revert to washing on 30-40 (speaking of Celsius degrees). If that doesn't give you the results you want, use dryer. Progressively again. Start extremely low temperature, and pause the drying after 10-15mins to see if it satisfies you. If not, put it another 15mins. If you don't get the result after a full drying circle, then increase a bit the temperature of drying and try the same. Hopefully, you will be able to shrink it.

@manoskalokairinos31593 жыл бұрын
@@alen7648 When you wash something it will shrink in both length and width. Try some normal low temp washes first, to see where it normally stops shrinking. I don't think that there is a way to shrink in width but not in length. Quite risky!

So no info on how to size your GI though? The majority of people will not be able to try them on. Most will be ordered over the internet. So how do you et the right size? I am short but wide. Most cloth4es i buy the pants are much too long if the waist fits me. I have broad shoulders and find a lot of t-shirts have sleeves that are a bit snug. So do i go for a bigger size then my height would suggest and then just get the legs re-hemmed?
