Hi Don! We just got a cover and are looking for some tips. We didn’t cut it (yet) and we don’t have the roller system. What is the best way to remove it neatly without getting leaves and stuff that are on top in the pool? Unfortunately we have a lot of trees around us… thanks!

I have an odd shaped pool that has one area that's a bit wider than the cover. What kind of tape would you recommend to attach a piece of the cut off scrap in the place where it needs to be wider?

At the end I notice you went in a few feet then attached the clips other videos attach the clips at the end of the cover is there a better reason for doing it your way?
@DonDoesStuff

Yes: My pool is an elongated octogon, with the roller suspended over the full width. So the clips need to be attached where the roller is. If your roller is secured at the end, attach the cover at the end.

Nice pool and good video, but, you could have showed how you attach the cover to the roller and showed the roll up process. Did I imagine you have a Sharpie that writes on a WET solar cover? Mine doesn't. Also you seem to be attaching the straps somewhere other the the end of the cover but again you didn't show that process. Thanks.

The package says Not to trim it, but it doesn't seem that it would harm it... sooo why does it say not to?
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tina! That's kind of odd. Mine did not say 'do not trim' and was certainly easy and had no negative consequences...it's just like super heavy duty bubble wrap. That said, given the message on yours, you may want to consult with your retailer or supplier! Have fun!!

G´day Don and others. I have an above ground pool whre the walls sort give it a slight shape of several figure 8 or bulges. Wood decking made it really nice, My question is what your thoughts are regading these bulges. Should I try and follow them or jus cut straight along the most inward point? Or other thoughts! Thanx for sharing your great stuff!

I would try to follow the curves in order to keep as much covered as possible. Worst case if you mess it up, you can still cut it straight.

Hey Don, just curious what’s the purpose of cutting it? Wouldn’t it be easier to take the cover off if the sides were sticking out of the pool? Is it less effective if you don’t cut it? Thank you Don.

It looks neater trimmed. Also really hard to roll it up when it is not laying flat.

Does it need to be trimmed to the skimmer or leave space there?
@DonDoesStuff
@DonDoesStuff 2 жыл бұрын
You really don't need to do anything special. Just cut it straight across the skimmer, with no extra space and no indent.

Hi i have a "L shape" pool what would be the best cover to buy the size is roughly 15' by 30 then L's out to a 8' x 8' at one corner ?
@DonDoesStuff
@DonDoesStuff 3 жыл бұрын
Gosh, Luba! That's a tricky shape! Two pieces would require 2 rollers....1 piece would be awkward to roll. Did you try asking a local pool company?

Different videos say different things about how close to trim the edges. What is your advice? Should I let the cover go up the sides a bit or have it flat on the pool just touching the sides?
@DonDoesStuff
@DonDoesStuff 3 жыл бұрын
Hi James! Ideally, the cover should just touch the sides. Two things conflict with this goal: One, the cover expands and contracts a bit with temperature, so the 'fit' will vary. Second, you need to be able to easily roll it in and out...and a perfectly smooth, even capture onto the roller can be tricky, especially if there is friction from the cover going up the sides. So....my recommendation is to trim it such that you have a small (1cm or 1/2 inch) gap between the cover and wall. That leaves room for expansion and minimizes friction. And, hey, we're not trying to get a hermetic seal...just good thermal coverage that looks nice!

Hello, Don thanks for the video! Did your cover some with two plastic sheets? Mine did and I am not sure what they are for.
@DonDoesStuff

They want you to cover up your cover when it's rolled up. Protects it in intense sun..but not crucial.

@@DonDoesStuff- The sun’s heat will pop the bubbles several layers in when the rolled up cover sits in direct summer sun… It traps the heat in the layers with no possible escape for that heat. We live in HOT high desert, so intense solar rays.

You would think they're would be another way , instead of this cheap plastic that usually don't last more than 3 summers. But until then Thanks

I hear you! I go through these things like crazy- prob every 3 yrs like you said. I know covering it up all the time would help, but seems a bit overkill to try and have something over it when its not being used. I try and throw a tarp over it during the winter when its just sitting on the reel out in the snow!

That's right...bubble side down. And if you're laying sod, it's green side up. That's it...that's all I know.
