Here I show How to fit a SOLAR Velux Window Blind into a VELUX window. These Solar Velux window blackout blinds are top quality and are very easy to fit. These Velux blackout blinds completely block out light and are a great way to help insulate your home too.
The solar velux blind is a motorized blind that is operated via a wireless, battery operated wall switch - no hard electrical wiring required. The actual blind motor is powered by batteries that are constantly charged via the built in solar panel within the blind. A perfect blind solution for those high up inaccessible Velux windows.
Absolutely no measuring required when ordering these because each Velux window has a unique code which will identify the size of window that you have. These codes are easily found by opening the window and looking on the top of the frame. The code can then be used to order your pre made Velux blind - this guarantees a PERFECT fit every time.
Solar powered Velux blinds are perfect for manual and solar INTEGRA® roof windows that are out of reach. Thanks - this helped me UNSTICK my blind. The remote control went faulty when the blind was down. Bad design means that the reset button is then inaccessible! This video helped me identify exactly where it is. You can then use a screwdriver the lever up the bottom of the blind a few millimeteres and a flat steel rule to nudge the reset button - then pair it with a new controller. Phew.

Fitted 2 blinds but year apart so forgot how. Still found it hard 2nd time but took much less time as you understand how it fits and works. Tips 1. Solar part faces light and moves up and down, other part is stationary. 2. Fit plastic bids at bottom first before you get tired as this is easy 3 look at the shape of the grove to understand how to fit in step one so that it stays up. One side first then other. 4 when fitting side bars, the rollers need to be on track and it has to clip to gather at top then bottom. Put one screw on each side. Reset the blind and test with remote before screwing rest of screws to make sure it works. 5. Use cordless after positioning with provided screwdriver to stop tiredness

Note that the SOLAR Velux Window Blind has a life expectancy. Eventually the battery pack inside will no longer charge. It doesn't last forever. I had one quit after about 6 years. The solution provided by Velux is to discard the entire blind and replace it with a new one. They didn't make the battery pack replaceable. My blind currently cost $450, and I have six of them. I disassembled it since I had nothing to lose. I can fabricate a new battery pack for less that $20 but I'm currently working on a wired solution which is a bit tricky because the motor assembly travels up and down with the blind, so the wire need to move with it. I believe I may have a solution. I'd rather not have to change the batteries every few years. Mine are 15 feet high and difficult to access.

The Velux instructions in printed and video form are depressingly poor and deepened my confusion, so I contacted Velux for technical support. After several fruitless interactions which included searching for a non-existent serial number that they insisted was there, I almost gave up. Your excellent video came to the rescue and a crucial bit of information was knowing that the solar panel is not stationary, but moves on the rails as you open and close the blind Now the Left and Right markings on the brackets make sense. Also good to know that Velux make multiple models of skylight, with identical dimensions, and the corresponding blind has to be ordered for a good fit Thanks for posting this video. I can stop yanking out my remaining few hairs.

Thanks for this video. Very useful when fitting mine. Mine has squeaks when opening the blind though, any thoughts on how to remedy? Bit of grease on the plastic sprockets?

Yes, I would just grease the sprockets if you can get to them, that will help.

I fitted the blind on the landing to block out light to the kitchen (which has a glass door) as the dog kept waking us up at ridiculous hours during the summer mornings ! Also, the blind helps with heat retention in the house during the winter. Thanks for the comment !

Yes, I do believe it is possible, but personally I only have one blind, so can't really comment any further. Do a google search and I am sure there will be information on how to pair different blinds with one switch

The first step that he skipped is what gave me trouble.. I was trying to slide the top part in (holding flush/level with the window). Turns out you push that up. The diagram in the book leaves a lot to be desired

If the windows are genuine Velux, then yes they will fit on there but maybe check to see if there are grey tabs in either corner of the window as I show in the video.

Don't be tempted to save money by ordering an electric blind in a non-solar version, just because you might have a source of power near the window! The non-solar version is about £10 cheaper, but there are potential on-costs. If your Velux isn't "Integra" you'll need another bit of kit that they don't tell you about that costs about £15.00, and if your window isn't electrically operated then you'll need the transformer kit which retails at about £120. So much for saving a tenner!

You should be able to just prise the blind off the grey clips. Use a large screwdriver or similar and gently prise it off.
