Thank you, i used this method to recover a recording of my now deceased father that was very dear to our family

Same here. It was a tape of my grandfather telling about his experiences in WWI. Priceless.

@@careyholman You should consider getting one of those cheap tape-to-USB devices to preserve the audio digitally too.

@@leonz4524 Yes. In about 1975, my brother interviewed our grandfather about his experiences. Now 45 years later, I've safely transferred it to digital format.

Thanks so much. With your help, I was able to repair a tape of my daughter helping me read the story of the Three Bears to her at age three. I will play it during our Zoom celebration on her 50th birthday. You've made my day.

Your video was very good... I use to repair cassettes a lot, but it has been at least 20 years since, I fixed one. Watching you brought back all my confidence ... I have many old cassettes, of a close friend, that was a well known d.j., that ha died . His many voice characters and songs that he played to make many local bands famous, will now entertain me for years to come!

A lot of Japanese tapes from the 80s seem to just use phillips head screws so thank God I don't have to worry about prying them open, thanks for the vid man

I use clear packing tape (Duck brand) for the splice because it's stronger than scotch tape. Then I use a hobby knife to carefully trim away any excess tape outside the edges of the magnetic tape.
@buzzlopez116210 күн бұрын
Good video - one suggestion would be to wear latex gloves or use extra care not to overhandle the actual magnetic tape, as you don't want to get oil and dirt on the tape - which would transfer to the heads on your tape deck.
@MrSkinnn4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that didn't work for me. The two halves of the case I needed to open were welded solid together. I cracked it all to hell and back, everyplace but on the seam. I keep old cases and found one with screws!!! Took it apart and switched in my good tape which had come off the one reel. Then I spliced it onto the leader on the new wheel. You can't keep enough parts around. I'm still playing perfect sounding cassette tapes that I used in my MGB back in 1969. Old School?

How will will the scotch tape hold up you think? I have 2 cassette tapes that need repaired the end of the tape came loose from the end strip on both. I thought a small drop of super glue 1st then the scotch tape may work. Thanks for the vid.

A good preventative measure would be to not rewind or fast forward a cassette. As in my experience this is the only time a few of my cassettes have snapped over the years.

Easier to just trash it and go to a Charity shop for 99p (when they reopen there will be thousands) Not worth all that hassle.
@Aidan_B_Young9 ай бұрын
You may not always be able to do that though. If the tape is rare or has irreplaceable audio on it, you may not have much of a choice in the matter.
