How to Fix a Broken Guitar String (Works!)

Use a pair of pliers when making the knot.
This is how I fix broken guitar strings. This method works most of the time. Sometimes the string will last for a few days, and sometimes it can last for many months.

YOU SAVED ME!!! I was restringing my guitar and I did the d sting the wrong way. With it moving in one spot it caused it to snap therefore have too short a string also it was a bit of a lower gauge. I had to use the old string and it was such a pain! Then I came across this video 🙏🙏🙏(I’m quite new to the actual maintenance part.)

I have joined a broken guitar string using a uni to uni fishing knot. It works! :) . when putting on new strings it pays not to snip the top of the string, but rather just curl the excess string up at the top where the tuning peg is so that if the string ever snaps there is still that curled up bit of string to use to join the string back together again

I used a different type of knot where you loop both strings together and pull both the ends through the loop. It worked perfect.

This saved me.. thanks so much. I never changed a string. I broke one, went to put on the only spare that came with my guitar kit and snapped it while winding it up cause idk wtf I’m doing... tried this and it snapped again, tried it again learning from my past failures and I got it to work.. I’m back to jamming and my shit mood is now a good mood! Working great until my new strings come in the mail.

Wow! This worked perfectly. My .07 E string came off the tuner and I had already trimmed the end. Luckily, I found the end I had clipped off and tied the knot. With room to spare where the knot is, the string tuned up just great. I've had a lot of experience tying broken fishing line with a different type of knot, but both would work. Beats having to buy another set. Thank you. :-)
