In this quick video I show you what to look for if you have CONDENSATION build up in your attic. Check all possible entry points for water leaking from outside BUT first start with your bathroom fan!

*Well-made, delivered quickly, and easy to install with **Fastly.Cool** . I may be imagining it, but it seems quieter than the 14 year-old unit that I pulled out. Of course it was noisy at the end due to failed bearings, so hard to compare.*

You have to add ventilation points, the bathroom vent is the smallest of the worries. I had an old house like that earlier in life and soffit vents and a couple of roof vents did help a lot.

The fan is also mounted 180 degrees from the way it should be. No 90 degree bend should happen as it leaves the fan case.

Seal the fan hose, use insulated line, and vapor seal the system. Then insulate the attic better, making sure the hose is buried under insulation. The pipe will stay warm, and not cause condensation to fill the exhaust hose.

What about the giant area of missing insulation above your bathroom? The wet air from the bath is coming into the attic even with the fan venting properly if you don’t correct that. Also what is the current outside temps? What’s the relative humidity in the house? If it’s extremely cold out and humidity is over %35 you will have condensation even with perfect venting and insulation. What say you?

+MrWestroofer hey thanks for the input. We had a rodent problem so I've been moving the insulation to check for damage. You are right on about the condensation. The fan venting into the attic also doesn't help... and the pipe should be insulated. And the attic doesn't have adequate ventilation. And it's an old house with no soffit vents etc...

This is the same problem I’ve had in my house, the previous owners piped the extraction fan straight into the loft so every time someone had a shower it pumped all the water vapour into it.

Also because of the chimney u blocked off. Possibly. If u have a gas furnace and more than likely that furnace goes and vents into that chimney. Unless your chimney is strictly just for a fireplace. Hope u found the moisture problem 😁

all the sudden mine blows steam/condensation out the roof vent and it has my rafters all damp and dripping in just the area from where the vent sticks out the roof. No explanation, just started doing it when I turn the heat on. Any ideas?

Any update?

@@Tsuki7786 yes the Amigos came and cut some of the house pipe down more flush with the roof. This was a mistake. I paid from my pocket to extend it back and put a different roof jack that allowed the steam to escape faster. It's a more open design and no issues.

Oh wow that is a terrible setup, glad you saw this before things got worse. There seems to be no ventilation in the soffit or even up on the top of your roof.
