Dude,THANK YOU! I spilled sprite on top of my computer yesterday. It fell through my radiator fans, through the radiator and on the back of my GTX 1080TI. Nothing immediately happened but I shut off my computer as fast as I could and cleaned what I could and attempted to turn it on...Black screen, nothing each time I tried, "no input". Swapped the card for my back up and found your video, studied religiously as well as studied your source video. Began dismantling and cleaning, didn't end up using WD-40, just water then dried and a few alcohol q-tip cleans. Got my $25 heat gun from wal-mart and got to work. Assembled after cooling and it worked just fine! Thank you for saving my bank!

I've been repairing electronics for decades. The problem with this repair is that it requires re-soldering of memory chips or GPU chips. Reheating may require flux. You know that tin becomes crap if you reheat it too long, especially lead-free tin. Lead-free tin is the beginning of all evil. Lead tin is now banned, but it may be the only option to repair really old electronics. I had a Raden HD 5970 Black Edition crash, if the GPU didn't die, it can be fixed. This is a dual GPU card. I have everything else, but missing air soldering tools. Baking at 200°C is not necessarily a technique because solder joints deteriorate when reheated. Reheating tin joints requires flux. Everything is much worse if the tin is lead-free. Lead tin is hard to buy, but as a professional repairman, I could buy it. Minimun requirement is flux ven tin joints reheated. If card works very short perieod time then solder joints go bad again. Than meen yuo need preheating machine and use of resoldering stencil for ships and that meas reballing. A microscope with a good camera would help and a thermal camera would be good. I'm missing almost all the tools. I have repaired a lot of electronics that can be over 20 years old. The new boss kicked me out, even though I had almost irreplaceable skills for the company's equipment. I knew a small and important part and I didn't share that information anymore. Panic sets in when I'm no longer in the company. My part can be missing and forever for that company. The Russian radar manufacturer was interested in me and the company wanted an employment contract and I don't know the reason, because I had already been selected. I have used to learn the command language, if I have done it with other devices, I know how to do it also with Russian devices. I have named it Kapula language.

I followed your video, i used WD-40, rinsed with water, and removed the residue with isopropyl alcohol. Then i heated up the board, and began circling the chip, until mainly focusing the heat on the gpu chip. after a minute i saw the soldier around the chip, flow out ever so slightly, and then i eased of the heat and slowly cooled it down. I then sat it infront of my fan for 10 minutes to ensure no fluid was left, hooked it back up, and i reinstalled my gpu drivers. Heating a Graphic card GPU with a heat gun wont acutely melt the graphics card. GPU As Graphic cards GPU are made primarily of multiple wafers of silicates molten silicate when melted turns in to magma. There is a considerable range of melting temperatures for different compositions of magma. All the silicates are molten at about 1200°C (when a part of rock) and all are solid when cooled to about 600°C. Often the silicates are grouped as high, medium and low-melting point solids So I doubt if you can damage them.

@@TotalKommando yea i think thats the issue its a small tin named deep cool is there any way to fix it . It was working fine around 2 weeks after changing the paste
@LifeKommando4 жыл бұрын
@@Anakdot Anything could have happened, maybe you damaged a component during teardown, and it caused to breakdown after 2 weeks of use. It could be something else, I would say take it apart, clean it up, try heating the chip like i did and put it back together to test. You can save some thermal paste by putting only a little just to see if it turns on.

If someone had similiar case to mine that would help. The issue with my card - AMD R9 390 (XFX) that it shows after a few minutes a black screen (in Windows 10). I reinstalled Windows and removed installed drivers again this still happens. I did one mistake in my PC case - it had really quiet fans to make it as silent as possible but they probably were badly built (negative pressure) and not cooling enough... which I suspect is a reason of my broken card. I noticed it was massively dust covered. I wanted to open it now and clean and probably will follow on the case above - will use some warm air from hairdryer. Will it help to fix it?
@VRKommando5 жыл бұрын
Unless you have a really good hair dryer, then it may fix it only a little, or you may have to put it really close to the chip and heat it for a longer time, clean the dust, replace the paste, clean your pc if its dusty and it hopefully it works

Well done but that video is for people who have no idea how the video card working and yes i have already tried with same gun on my laptop it's working now but i have burn my mouse and p,o,0 buttons is dead to , So i can give a advance, first open the card and with flash light and magnifying glass check all components if you see something burn like fuse or another small component better do not try because card is dead an you have two choices: first one is to find someone who can change the burnett part and this this cost from 50-150 euros or dollars or maybe more and the second one is to try this a little bit crazy method and to see that will be not helpful and you will lost a time and after that when you go to wash your hands and see your face on the mirror you will realise how sad you feel because you have made a Fatality on your card and now one can't help any more.(no hate gay's i just give my point of view) Good Luck and have a fun.Postscript i love my sapphire rx 470 nitro+ 8gb but is dead 👹🔨☠️🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🤬

stupid question, why do you need to toast your PCB? I'm attempting to fix my coke damaged Asus 1080. I need to understand why to do it right, Please help!
@TotalKommando4 жыл бұрын
In my case it most likey failed because of heat and not the coke. I would still do what I did to my card to your card. wash it clean it good. dry it well and then heat it how I did. Then try testing it. No point of doing 1 thing and not the other. Do you have any video signal when you power on your PC?

Kitchen oven heats up everything which is not good, thats how you drop your chances but a lot by doing that, with the heatgun or a powerful hair dryer for a longer period will be much better since you can control and direct the heat to only the area you are targeting

When its posting its using a basic display driver, when it goes into windows where it has the right driver it crashes. Which means your card is suffering from a similar issur in the video from prolongrd heat damage. @TotalKommando3 жыл бұрын
How bad was the old thermal paste, was it super dried up and was the gpu under a lot of heat? Is it a blower style, if so it wouldn't hurt to try the heat treatment, if you have the means to reflow it for cheap properly then do it, otherwise your best chance without spending a dime is just give it the heat treatment, check for any possible knocked off components and give it a quick rubbing alcohol or wd-40 clean up with a soft brush incase something is shorting somewhere. The only other thing I can think of is if the thermal paste you used is conductive, and it happen to spill onto an smd causing it to short.
