How To Fix A Door That's Sticking Or Rubbing With The Fastcap Knucklebender
If your door is sticking, rubbing, sagging or won't close here's how you can fix it easily. Thanks for the video, I have used a regular crescent wrench before i didn't realize they made a special tool for this, and also did not know about the difference in the jam and door knuckles and which way to bend them. Ordering one soon. I appreciate your video's even at age 59. I work at a high rise in northeast Florida as a maintenance Engineer.

Noooo! STOP hinge doctoring hinges!!! This screws-up hinges, and strips screws. ALWAYS shim the hinges with cardboard! On the frame- Shim the top and bottom corners opposite the hinge pin to move the hinge pin toward the hinge side of the opening. Shim the inside corners to move the hinge pin towards the latch side of the opening. Hinge doctors cause damage. Just shim. I'm a civilian carpenter for the US Army. I fix doors all day. Bending hinges is asking to return in the future.

While I understand the concern of hinge doctoring how does shimming corners of a frame on a door that rubs or won't quite close solve the problem? The hinges have to be altered or the door frame reset in those cases. I'd welcome a bit more insight 🙂

@@TheJASDrummer - He's saying you should put shims, apparently made from cardboard, between the hinge and door frame just on the edge farthest from the hinge pin, that way it will angle the hinge slightly moving the pin section of the hinge away from the latch side... I hope that's clear, I followed what he said, and I can make a quick video showing what he means if I didn't clear it up.

There is a limit on how much you can shim but when hinges are really bent you either need to bend them back or replace the hinge. Shims are really only good for new door install.

None of my hinges stick out that far to grab. Useless tool.

It's not useless, it works quite well as you saw in the video. It just doesn't work on the type of hinges you have. Try tightening up all your hinges real good or even put longer screws in the top hinge so they grab the 2x4 frame behind the door frame & it will pull the door back away from the frame alittle. If you still need more you can lay a 2x4 against the frame & tap it with a hammer to push the frame back alittle bit. Hope those tips help.
