Shen Actually I had a Gold Version as a kid that my older cousin gave me. The battery was already dry and I never played it since. 3 years ago I sold it to my local comic book shop because well....it didn't save and I didn't know how to change it. So I just sold it off.

Thank you very much for showing me how to replace the battery! My Pokemon Blue game wasn't able to save for years, but I bought an Energizer battery for CR2025 and used pliers that I bought at Fry's and I was able to slowly take the two strips that hold down the battery off and replace it. I actually used stick glue meant for school because I forgot that you said not to use glue, but it works fine. :) I really appreciate that you showed us how to replace the save battery. I realized that you don't have to put the first strip on the bottom of the battery; if you glue the battery down first and then put both strips on top of the battery, the game still saves every time. Thanks again for your help.

To get the screw out, take the internals of a plastic pen out and then hold a lighter to the tip on the plastic pen for like 5-10seconds. Then hold the pen tip to the screw so you can create a mold and hold it there for like a minute or 2. Then you should be able to take the screw out easier.

Thanks, the more videos like this to pull tips from, the better imo. Another good tip I heard about the main screw was take a cheepo biro ballpoint, unscrew it all and use a lighter to soften the end and have it mold around the screwhead, let it cool and use it as a tool. Good luck Shiny hunting, breeding works in Gen 2. The opposite gendered child to a shiny parent had a 1/64 chance of having shiny DVs I beleive. A same gendered child is 1/2 or 1/4 times that chance, I forget. The usual problem is pulling the battery out means you lose the game saved but I mean chances are its too dead to even hold it so its not really an issue. There is a tool called a mega memory card but man are they rare.
@Starcoffin9 жыл бұрын
I made a makeshift screwdriver with a mechanical pencil. I took all of the parts out so I just had the tip and handle, I used a lighter and heated up the tip so it was soft and pressed it against the screw. This only woks for a short while, the plastic does not hold the shape for long once hardened, but you can reuse the same pencil tip a few times.

1) prying loose the contacts was hell. But I managed it using pincette pliers from a nintendo toolkit found on amazon. (same that got me the gamebit screwdriver) I made little waves and then used a small flat screwdriver to push it under the ripples. It took me about 15 minutes for both contacts, working milimeter for milimeter really takes patience and a steady hand. For the bottom contact, that seems very difficult at first because you cant handle under the battery, but here I used the pincette to curl it up, sort of making "hair locks", an bit by bit it came off. 2) then i used the pincette to cut off the yellowish band thingy around the old battery and put it over the new battery, so the upper - contact does not get in contact with the broader + side of the 2025 battery, which overextends. Kinda like a protection suit. 3) Straightening the contacts with some broader pliers was no problem. 4) The hardest part was taping. I dont have that blue glue that you have, so I just took the next household tape band I have, very carefully but it into the right size (which is hell, because it needs to have enough space to stick, but must not interfere with the small metal thingys on the board), and somehow failed to make it stick. for now, its an additional stabilisator, but must not be shaken. really need to rework this with the blue glue if I ever get to buy one over here. Welp!. Meh, so I put on the top lid, screwed it tight, and it seems to work again. Atleast for now. I will report back if it stops doing so.

Couple of tips:Get a biro pen and take the nib,ink,and top off melt down the top with a lighter to make it soft then press down on to the game boy screw and you then have a plastic screw remover! 2nd tip when the plastic is off plug the game in to a game boy SP advance and then turn the game on and load your save then carefully remove and replace the battery (by doing this with the game turned on your save is still powerd by the game boy and you can then still keep your original game! )

If the battery arms are corroded, and you don't feel comfortable replacing them, DO NOT USE SANDPAPER. Sandpaper will limit the conductivity of the arms and limit the longevity of your game and battery. Instead, gently scrape it lengthwise with a pocket or Swiss knife until it shines to remove corrosion

Do 1. Gen. Games even have that Gen. 2 - internal Batteries? Because I dont think so. The old ones dont have that real time clock thing, so they dont need a energy source but the GB Batteries. My 17 years old Red Edition still works.
@Cassssssss9 жыл бұрын
They do have the same batteries, but a lot of people like you and myself have found that the batteries in their gen 1 games still work or lasted a lot longer than the gen 2 games because of that internal clock. G/S/C day and night system is really taxing on that battery, which is one of the big reasons that gen 2 games have a real problem with this.
@Cassssssss9 жыл бұрын
Basically what happens as a result of the batteries dying across any of the gen 1 and 2 games is that they lose the ability to save, and you typically lose the save data you do have. Like I said this can happen to gen 1 games, but it takes a hell of a lot longer. My original blue version from so long ago has never had its battery die either. :)
@Shigeru05088 жыл бұрын
Oh, ok. Thank you for the explanation. I will buy the 3DS Relase of Blue anyway :D That was really awesome from Nintendo/GF to do this. I just hope the Missingno. and Mew Glitch will still work D:

+Eren Jäger They will still work! The only changes to these versions of the games is that they'll be able to trade and battle locally without a link cable, using the tech the 3DS typically used for local play. Other than that they're identical, so all the classic glitches are intact. :D
