Thanks for that. I have had the same problem, including it still leaking when I fitted the replacement valve. Thought I had done something totally wrong but now back to remake the joint as you did. The clear tube is to let air into the boiler when you drain down for the winter.

just an update, firstly job done thx too you. went too my local truma outlet for the bits he informed me that the pipe that goes through the body and out the van was an inlet to allow air into the system when the boiler is drained, makes sense I suppose. Anyway thx again for the vlog on this subject without it I could have been a few quid out of pocket.

Doesn't your boiler have an anti frost valve on them so when it gets cold outside the valve opens dumping the contents of the boiler and therefore no frozen boiler?

John, do you mean the light that goes off when the water is at either 40 or 60 degrees? We have 2 lights. The red fault one and a yellow/green which turns off when the water is at the right temperature. Does your boiler over heat the water? Or does it turn off?
@andrewelliott79963 жыл бұрын
I had this exact same issue this weekend. Boiler leaking and lacking water pressure in taps. Did the same fix. All sorted. To me it's a pressure relief valve not a let air in valve.

Thanks. I’m having issues with the earlier red hot water fitting elbow to John Guest. The threads split and a replacement I got also split. I now have the white fitting - presumably a better moulding - more heat resistant- hopefully. I was hoping you’d touch on how tight to do up this fitting. By the way I don’t think you’re correct in calling it a pressure relief valve. It’s function I believe is to allow air to come back in to facilitate the wAter draining out ( air going into the top to allow the water to drain out when lifting the two way valve. ) this would be for fitting a new element or winterising etc. When the boiler is full and under normal pump pressure the air inlet valve with the clear plastic tubing of course is closed. When water is trying to drain out, air has to get in or a suction situation exists. There is another outlet at the bottom of the external cowl vent area which allows condensate etc to drain away. That’s visible outside the RV in the bottom corner of the cowl vent. Anyhow thanks I think for your video. I ended up with success by fitting the compression nut, then the split sleeve or collar then the O ring right onto and OVER the raised knuckle, THEN push and hold the plastic elbow onto that outlet pipe whilst doing up the nut. I did the same as you - fitted a new outlet elbow, turned the pump on and it leaked, like yours did. It’s a stupid fitting. I think part of the prob is that knuckle near the end of the stainless pipe taking hot water out. The collar/ sleeve surely doesn’t fit up over the knuckle. Anyway, cheers .

This is a good question, Mark because I did find it difficult to choose the correct one. In the end I chose the value which looked similar to the old one. One our boiler there is a large yellow sticker which contains the model and serial number. I hope that helps

@HermanHitstheRoad3 жыл бұрын
Of course, Dave if it keeps occurring then there could be a problem with the boiler rather than the valve. Always consider Occam's Razor before fixing anything. 👍👍
@ianharris11833 жыл бұрын
Good job but it could be that your water is over heating thus opening the relief valve to release the pressure.

@HermanHitstheRoad3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the water was getting too hot, Henry because the new valve is working fine now.
@millgate3 жыл бұрын
I think the valve is a 'breather' valve that is used to let air into the system when you drain it down rather than release pressure. Seems to be a common misconception but maybe I'm wrong. The older boilers don't have a replacement part so using the same part that you did I had to bodge a few plumbing items together to make it work: facebook.com/groups/classichymers/permalink/3933913523288105
