Srsly very helpful, I thought my dispenser was done for but I just unscrewed the faucet and it has some built up plastic bits from the water jugs wrappers, all good now

You know how every so often the water randomly bubbles. Water pours out the Spicket when that happens, leaving a puddle

Even after using half a bottle, this hole issue is the issue? Were you referring to almost full bottle?

Yes. Because pressure builds up and pushes water out and up the side of dispenser. I had a 3 and 5 gallon bottle go bad. Well one was 25 yrs old. The five was about 15.

What does it mean defective bottle? Wouldn't a cracked bottle leak when sitting on its bottom?

No, it requires air to pass through for the water to leak, so it only starts leaking when the seal is broken and air can pass through thr bottle

If a bottle is dripping water slowly from the cap when it is stored on its side, is the bottle defective? Or it’s normal and it’s just the suction of the cap to the bottle? Could it cause the resorvoir to overflow?

You can try it. You are buying yourself some extra time in the sense that It may work okay for a while...but it will begin to leak again.
