With regards to the "waterfall color". I had success only sanding down the parts that had the issue down to the primer, then repaint with color and clear coat. Of course if your whole previous surface was too rough, you will have to redo the whole thing.

Awesome information from the pro! I will say after trying it that touch-ups and remasking is more difficult than painting the entire bike. I had some masking tape issues. I also had #2 happen to me after trying to apply a touchup to just one area on top of uncured paint. One last one I would say let the paint cure a bit before applying tape I had the tape deform the paint. Love the channel!!!

At around 11minutes or so: Regarding paint bleed under a decal mask: there are 2 other factors to consider: 1. the curvature of your tubing and the rigidity of the decal material. some materials are thicker, or more rigid, and do not cooperate very well in conforming to a curved surface. Perhaps heating it a bit (but not enough to make the glue ineffective) might help, or simply switching to a thinner more flexible material. 2. another thing that may help, is to increase the distance from the spray nozzle to the surface. If you increase distance by 50%, the pressure will decrease proportionately (to be kept within maximum distance, of course).
@TimmiMontreal4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the video. It is helpful. PS: at around 17minutes, I have run into a problem removing tape because I forgot it and let it dry too long. if you take the tape off sooner, there is a reduced chance of the paint peeling off.

I still can't believe that one girl painted her bike in her living room. 😲
@OmaBike4 жыл бұрын
I've done that many times. Because the best time to paint your bicycle is in the winter when you aren't riding it. And living in an apartment, you don't have a choice where to paint. I've had some overspray on the carpet sometimes, but always managed to minimize it enough that I got my rental deposit back. :) When I was 17 living with my parents, I opened my bedroom window and painted it over the roof shingles outside the window. LOL! Had some gray primer overspray on the roof that my dad didn't notice. He did notice the overspray on my closet door which I had to clean off. :(

I've been painting my bicycles with automotive touch up spray paint for 45 years. I want to do something special on my 1978 and suddenly I'm panicking at all the problems that could happen. I guess I will do a lot of pre-production testing and cross my fingers. The worst thing that would happen is I have to sand it all down and start over. ;)

very first time painting a bicycle. i have a steel bicycle and would like to do the main color white, with red panels, and black lettering and panel boarders. i think it would be far easier to use direct decals. rather than spraying a black base color and using the pull-off decals. i think that would be simpler, and i wouldn't run into the problems shown in this video
@ETOE4 жыл бұрын
You will run in so much more problems. Factory frames have screen printed designs and lettering you are not able to produce. If you use vinyl it will be the typical low quality.
@GilWertheim4 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up. If you use a free piece of software called OBS, you can do a screen capture instead of a second camera over the shoulder. You can do the same screen setup you have here and switch everything "live" as you record. If you are interested in learning more, I'd be more than happy to talk you through a set up.

I followed your advice after watching many of your videos. The carbon frame was sanded, primed, painted and cleared. Sadly, I ran out of 2K clear. A majority of the bike is glass-like but the “panel” or two that didn’t get “wet” or layered is a bit textured from the lack of clear coat consistency. Now that I’ve got more 2K a week or so later, do I need to wet sand the thin textured clear areas or will the 2K can spray be sufficient to level the coat? I’ve founded conflicting information online and would like to avoid sanding if possible in these areas due to high chance of hitting the paint layer. Any thought you wouldn’t mind sharing?

i have a feq questions , im going to use the 2k primer , im going to do a 3 color spray can job , black primer some white logos added back( its a caad 10 ), so do i sand the primer with 800 or 1000 grit paper then do the white areas for the logos , sand that area with 800 or 1000 grit , then do the logo masks , then paint the two main colors , then sand everything with 1000 grit , then do the clear coat , sand the clear coat with 800 or 1000 , then clear coat again , is that right ?

i got some pitting from sanding to early and some raised areas from poor application , i ran out of 2k primer , i have to order it , but can i just sand it more and use the paint to smooth into the pit areas , or should i just wait and get more 2k primer and just make sure it fully smooth and even before paint ? can i also use cheaper rustoleum primer ?

Just dry the layers of paint better than you did. Paint is not dry and solvents make the paint soft.

Is it OK to paint a crash helmet? Does it invalidate the protection rating? Genuine question as the paint and solvents can affect the helmet. Thanks for your entertaining video.
@Rusiputki4 жыл бұрын
The protection rating is just politics, it has nothing to do with actual safety. It's just designed for money making certification etc..

your videos are great. i am fun of diy paint jobs. but i only use can sprays. my question is how thick should my layers be. how many layers should i do. and how long should i cure the paint. often i do paint jobs but after a day or two, rhe paint looks dry but when pressed hard, it still marks.

When should one remove the the masking decals? When the paint is still a bit soft? Or when cured for longer? It seems that trying to remove decals with wet paint is messy, but with fully cured paint it can chip.
@ETOE4 жыл бұрын
Search for a piece of dog poop on the side walk. Put a wood stick in it and turn it anti clockwise. If the stick turns 87.4 degree sideways you have the right consistency of poop. Your color should have the same consistency when removing the decals.
