Hi Martin, have you done already a spot repair instead of painting whole frames? Might worth a video because I don‘t warnt to strip down the whole 40 year old color but repair the rusty spots. Best, Jens

Hi Martin, I'm working on an old steel bike but struggling to remove the old dark paint around the lugs. Have you any tips for sanding/removing paint in tight spaces? Also in some parts i've gone through the base coat to bare steel, should I now remove all the other based coat back to steel? Thanks

Martin, you inspired me to spray paint my old aluminum frame but I am getting confused on when to sand or not to sand between coats. Can you explain when and why you sand between coats? (As an example: I plan to apply Primer, then a Base Metallic, then mask/stencil some areas, then Effect Color, then Clearcoat. The color producer does not recommend any sanding, only if color has been left to dry for more than 24h. Is this really the best way?)
@ETOE3 жыл бұрын
Yes do what the color producer tells you.

Hi Martin, thank you for being so funny but professional in your video's! A question for your next Q&A. I have done a few spray paint projects on bicycles and used Montana Carribean Blue and a few other colors. To be honest, the paint is beautiful but so thin (even with a few layers of paint and clear) and vulnerable. Can I reenforce the paint with a coat (or several) of clear from a spray gun?

Hi Martin! Thanks for your videos. With a steel frame, how do you make sure all rust is removed from brazed on top tube cable guides? Also, how do make sure you have good primer and paint coverage on the inside of these areas? Thanks again!

Hi Martin... great vids keep them coming.. Q1. How long do you leave between clearcoats before flatting, knowing that 2k lacquers in tins have a 5-6 hour user time ? Q2. What software do you use for decals? Q3. What printer do you use for printing the decals?

Martin, great job! Love your videos. I have a question: How can i paint a bike like the specialized aethos, (the purple one)? If you look close to the pictures on google you will see it has a very unique shifting color which is purple and rusty orange...and the paint its kind of transparent cause you can still see the carbon layers under the paint .

I know that a 2k epoxy primer is best but what are the repercussions, if any, if I use a bonding primer such as Sherwin-Williams, on a gel coated carbon fiber frame that will receive a final 2k clear coat?

Hello, I am painting some bike helmets and have bought the Montana spray paints, polystyrene primer and 2K clear coat you use, but just wondering what materials in bike helmets I need to watch out for. I’m not sure what materials will be destroyed by what. Any help on this would be great. Thank you!

Thanks for your excellent videos Martin. I was wondering if there are any special considerations for painting titanium frames with regards to preparation/primer etc. What primer could you recommend? Thanks from Wales.

Hello Martin. How many milliliters (approximately) for all - primer / color / clear coat, you use to completely cover the frame on road bike. Thanks, Jozef.

Martin, thanks for the inspiring videos! Can you sand blast an aluminum frame, or do you suggest hand sanding with 600 and 800 grit sand paper until paint is dull in color? The media blast business near me only uses sand as a media. Thanks!

Hi Martin. Thanks for all the useful tips. They will come in very handy when I start my first DIY project. My road bike has an aluminium frame and carbon forks... Will I need to use different paint or primer or can I use the same for both?
@4ndymcflab2463 жыл бұрын
... Also, I’m told that aluminium oxidises almost instantly on contact with the air. How much time do you have to apply the primer coat after sanding or media blasting?

Hi Martin. I've just come across your Channel and its brilliant, I too spray paint but I do Glass "with the big Boys Toys'' lol. Just a quick question. We have a Machine that mixes the colours for you like Ral/British standard etc but for what we do its all water based. I have a old Team Raleigh Banana that I really want to respray, is our stuff going to be any good or am I going to have to order some harder paint in?

If your frame is made of glass your color is perfect.

Hi Martin, I brought my aluminum frame to a sand/media-blaster. They said they didn't want to media-blast it because on a light weight aluminum frame the loss of material could be a danger. Instead they tried to strip the paint of with chemicals... and failed! Nothing happened. Old paint is still on. Are they correct that you should not media-blast a light weight aluminum frame? (Mine is 1,163g) And are they correct that some paints can hardly be removed with chemicals? (Mine is a normal Specialized matt Black color, at least that's what I thought). Or did I go to the worst Media blaster ever? At least I didn't have to pay anything.

@@ETOE Seriously, you are media-blasting carbon and I have seen multiple successful media-blasting of aluminum frames... So I should simply go to another media-blaster with my light weight aluminum frame, right? Or is it too dangerous and much better to sand it down by hand?
