That is a nicely balanced engine. Very dialed in. Just a few comments, first don't put that much stress on your rubber hose (shaft log). You can do what he did, but be very careful and smooth and don't twist more than about 5-10 degrees. Better to grab the flats of the stuffing box (if equipped and if you can). Second, look up your neighbor on America's most wanted, just to be sure..

I thought that it should only be hand tight and if that doesn't do it you need to restuff. That is a big wrench on a packing nut but what do I know.

It’ll change a bit when it truly gets run based on rpm’ and the amount of heat that builds ups. 10’ish is fine more or less. Just keep checking once and a while when running to protect the shaft. 👍 Fair winds guys.

Nooooooo, wrong tools. Never use adjustable spanners on soft material like brass. Go out and buy a set of pump nut spanners that fit all the different fittings on the stuffing box and glands. Best buy for your boat/yacht you will ever make.

Would have been better to repack the nut with new packing, but that is a quick fix for now
