All those other parts determine your % of contact, but the swing determines what happens after contact. I really appreciate your thoughts and perspective on things. I think a lot of baseball coaches lack the ability to appreciate that not everyone coaches the same way, and that "that's the way we've always done it" is the worst reason to keep doing anything.

I do believe this is a good hitting technique. I played college baseball in the early 2000’s and did not hit this way. I wish I learned, I think teacherman makes it look easier then it is and for a weaker “slap” type hitter I’m not sure it would work that well based on not being that strong. I still play for fun in a men’s league now and I’m excited to try/work on these techniques. Thank you for this content and making me think more about hitting Teacherman.

I believe this works and I am trying but attempting to hit live ball with this technique is extremely hard. I am going to still work on it but yeah

Can I ask if u are right handed or left handed and what level u are playing? I’m a washed up men’s league’er but my first year trying to learn this has increased my batting avg and walk rate, what I’m seeing is it puts hitters in better positions. But I know what u mean about getting it to work. I have a hard time Feelin like I’m uncoiling. But I want to Barry bonds one really bad.

Hey Rich Thanks for all your content ... much appreciated. The one question that you probably receive the most is that the rear tilt promotes hitting the ball to high ... especially at the youth level. I am curious how you respond to such critics. I ask because my son is working on what you put out on the interent and he seems to be hitting the ball too high. Short of coming out to your facility ... if you have any suggestions they would be appreciated!!! Thanks

I've been teaching the HLP to my 10U Travel Softball team. What I've noticed is that if they are popping it up or getting too far underneath the ball, it's mainly been due to their hands dropping trying to "push" their hands to the ball; an old habit. To use Richard's terminology, once they figure out how to snap behind the corner, the barrel path will be more true to the ball. Good luck!

@@mjstavalone Articulated nicely above by Bobby. The body will tilt more or less depending on the pitch location, but the core elements of how they're turning the barrel and powering the swing should remain the same no matter where the pitch is.

So I guess Ted Williams was wrong all these years. When I hear someone talk about a rotational swing like this, it is evident they don't truly comprehend the 'rotational' swing. It is neither singularly rotational, nor linear; it is both. Both elements are present in high level swings. Stride is linear...front foot lands and the body rotates and the arms/hands continue through contact in a linear fashion and then the finish typically rotates around the body. A simple explanation, but sufficient. The idea of hitting off your back leg certainly isn't present n MLB swings, unless a hitter gets completely fooled; there is always the exception to every rule. Frankly, as I watch him 'snap' his barrel down, ultimately his body rotates around in order to get the barrel towards the ball. To snap back and down seems to be the opposite of what I see when reviewing elite swings by collegiate and higher swings. If this method works for you, good for you. Part of My issue is the pompous attitude that anyone that disagrees is stupid and doesn't know anything about the swing. I would beg to differ. I know a few people that know much more about the swing AND Approach to hitting than this guy. Again, if this works for you, good on ya, but maybe you aren't really swinging back and down and then forward-what do I know?

My son has worked his swing for years. Years. And damn good mechanics with the Ted williams approach. He had a high profile swing coach. He’s had his moments but nothing special other than the fact he always makes some type of contact. We started trying this a month ago and he is absolutely raking. Weight on back foot and the attacking. I on the other hand still use ted vwilliams approach for myself.
