After my sureflap SUR001BR brown cat flap broke and wouldn't let my cat in or out despite changing the batteries, I discovered a way to fix it!

I just installed one of the new sure flap cat doors and was casting about on the web for information and advice when I found your video. Now I will know to routinely clean those lenses to prevent the cat from not being able to get inside. Thank you very much!

We bought a new house and had a very similar issue with the cat flap. Light on constant red, cat can get out but not in, even after changing batteries. Turns out we had only changed the 2 batteries on the one side. There was another 2 batteries on the opposite side that also needed changing. Changed these and it worked fine.

Great tip! Thanks for sharing! I even had some additional problems after 5 years without any problems. The lock hatches section was full of hair and filth. It did not help to vacuum and blow the dirt away. I had to remove the whole cassette and clean the surfaces and wheels after the little motors. So hatches would not open/close properly. Easy to fix and the Sure Flap seem to be repairable just by cleaning and a service once in a while. Found no video about this tho.

I had trouble with my sureflap,the plunger was sticking,stripped it down and found the little motor sticking,sprayed both ends of the motor and that was the problem,marvellous working brilliant now

I've had my flap for about 5 years. I recently stopped working. I dismantled it and cleaned everything and added a decent set of new batteries. Now it's better but intermittently stops working. I wonder if I should just buy a new one. £70 though.

Another point worth checking is that the motor gets damp, and will seize up over time. Remove the motor, add a drop of WD40 to the spindle, and work it loose, then replace it.

It's a disaster. It is 2 days before Christmas. The catch has somehow become jammed in the up position. If my cat goes out, then it can't get back in. When you remove the batteries, the catch is meant to drop down and then it work like a normal cat flap.. It doesn't do it though. I only bought it about 6 months ago. Cost a fortune to replace. Is broken already. I can't find the cat flaps on Amazon anymore. Think they changed their name to PetSafe. What's going on here? Is it a faulty design? This has ruined my Christmas and can't ring them about it either.

@@ArtbooksReviewed I took the batteries out and stuck the catch down with a piece of tape. It works like a normal cat flap at the moment. Just hope that other cat doesn't realise and comes through it again. Still need to ring this new company that I think they changed their name to and ask for a new replacement. Think I'll wait a few days into the new year maybe. Wonder what they'll say about it. They've changed the design and their name. It's so dodgy. Will they deny that they are them?

Don't think they've changed names actually. Think the really old one we had was by the Staywell company then, which is now called PetSafe. I did find the contact number for the Sure pet care company. They do still exist. I'll ring them then.

I think the more expensive SureFlap models can be programmed with a mobile app.

I just looked it up the Sureflap Microchip Cat Door Connect says "Create a curfew - set the door to lock and unlock at specified times or take control at any time using the Sure Petcare app"
