This was super helpful. I stopped at the removing the outer shell piece but watching this has convinced me I can investigate further. Thank you!

I repaired a washer just a few weeks ago and will be posting a video on some of the repairs. One thing I would say is just how incredibly different the machine I repaired is to yours. The one I worked on was no where near as simple to disassemble but I would say the one I worked on was build to a higher quality with all metal gears, large bearings and really strong support hanger rods. You'll have to tell me what you think of the difference once I post my video.

Hey Todd. This one has worked reliably for 20 years. I wonder how long a "high quality" one will last.

***** The unit I worked on was quite old, not sure how old but the current owner bought it used so quite old. The tub seal had failed which allowed water to drip on the main bearing and wash out the grease over time then causing the bearing to overheat and fail. It was quite the job to replace but everything seemed very well built. Yours looked well built other than the gears really. You should put the full make and model in your show notes because every make and model is highly different and I'ms sure views would like to know if they have the same make and model for reference.

My washer does it's functions correctly, but I have to manually move the button for it to go into any cycle. What can I do to fix that?
@HowToLou Жыл бұрын
Sounds like the little motor that drives your knob around to all the functions is dead. See if you can just buy the motor and replace it. If not, buy the whole knob assembly

So, I have Maytag top load washing machine, mod3l MAV9600EWQ. The agitator will work, and the tub will drain; however, the machine will not spin dry. I'm told the transmission for this clothes washer is dead. I would like to try to repair it myself. However, online transmission replacements exceed $350. From watching several KZbin videos, I came away thinking transmission repair or replacement would be significantly less expensive. Is it possible cheap purchase I repair kit or a transmission for less? If so, are may I purchase this/these part(s)?

I have a feeling you plan on keeping that machine for a very long time. It seems like they built in some obsolescence with that gear...

20 years per gear. They just don't make them like they used to :)

***** - Sorry I have not put out many videos in a while. I have been working on a web site that will teach people how to program computers. Once I am done, I will put out a lot associated with that. Also, lucky for you, my furnace recently got flooded with water and I am making a "How to fix a furnace" video that covers every part!
