You forgot to bleed the air out of the charging line. The vacuum created by the compressor has sucked in the air from inside the blue refrigerant line into the compressor diminishing performance . How do you do it the right way? You hook everything up as he explained. However, before you pierce the refrigerant line on the compressor, you first pierce the refrigerant can and open the valve on the can. Then, you go to the blue line connection at the piercing valve on the compressor and loosen it just a bit until refrigerant comes out and then you tighten the connection. (This way you purged out all the air in the blue line.) Then you pierce the compressor refrigerant line last. Also, always keep the refrigerant can upright to make sure that only R34a gas goes into the compressor and not liquid R34a. Don't worry, the oil in the can will come out with the refrigerant even if you hold the can upright. Ideally, you would first vacuum out the entire refrigeration system and then use a scale to weigh in the specific amount of refrigerant the system requires. If you are unable to do so, a good rule of thumb for most refrigerators, water coolers and chest freezers that use R34a is to put in enough refrigerant until it reaches 2 on the pressure gauge. Lastly, keep an eye on the system because if you have to add refrigerant, many times it means that there is a pinhole leak somewhere. I don't use leak stop because in my experience that prematurely destroys the compressor.

I know this is a little old but I have 2 lines coming off my compressor that are identical. One in the back goes up to the top of my water cooler and one in the front goes in the side of it. Both lines a same height...which line do I add freon too?

Just make sure you install the BPV on the succion line. And make sure to mention that the can will not fix a leak...it will only add a hydrocarbon mix to replace the R134.

Is it normal for the back coil to give off so much heat? Seems like the motor runs quite a while. The water is cold again but doesn’t the motor cut off after it’s cold enough?

the compressor will cycle on and off but the unit will always be running. They put off some heat. Think of it as removing the heat from the water, not making the water cold.

No need to pull a vacuum on it? Mines is restricted… you think emptying it and putting nitrogen in it will clean it out?

to top it off, no vacuum is needed. If you are wanting to completely empty and recharge, you would need to vacuum.

Where I live if you can't determine where it is leaking the unit must be scraped.
