Found this on a random internet search. Gotta say. It worked. Step 5. There was a little piece on the stick that was protruded just enough to make it stick while moving up and down. Took it out. No more problems. Thanks. Great visuals and guidance here

I tried every step, 6 was the one that finally worked. Blowing didn’t, tapping on the back didn’t, cleaning out the inside stick didn’t, but prying apart that little green cap and cleaning the entire inside of that area(the white part mostly) actually did the trick, and the controller had no damage thanks to your cautious process. Thanks a ton dude, saved me 60 bucks because I was ready to just buy a new one!!! Also I felt really good after I got it to work, felt like a true tech nerd!

@@solaria5513 like the screen would just randomly start panning up, and if paused a game, it would just cycle up endlessly through the menu. It was basically a “constant yet phantom UP input”. It eventually came back but I extended the life of the controller about 2 weeks with this fix.

Thanks for the detailed video mate. Very direct and no clickbaiting. My left analog stick on my xbox one s controller was really bad. My character kept moving by themselves in games and were literally unplayable. So today I decided to open and fix it. I run through the comments before trying and saw a lot of people saying method 6 worked, so after trying the other methods I did method 6 and it worked!! The green plastic thing was really dirty. But only one of them. I had some trouble putting one of them back in place and had to cut the bottom peg. Then I tried it on gamepad tester, no more drift. And then went in game to test, and still no drift. So thank you again!! 😂

Tried all steps except #6. Didn't want to risk damaging the small components. I ended up flooding everything with electronic contact cleaner, blowing everything out with compressed air. That finally worked and fixed the stick drift.

Removing the gray part (as explained at 7:40) revealed the real problem for me. The left joystick had a small breakoff part stuck behind the gray part. Once I removed it, both joysticks stopped drifting immediately! Thanks a bunch for mentioning it even though you hadn't personally tested it! Some information is better than none! Thanks for a great video, and for helping me fix my controller!

Update: After a while another issue with the same sensor appeared. I've cleaned everything again but it did nothing this time. Then I opened different sensor to compare the tiny disks (6:40) inside them and it looked like the disk in faulty sensor was a bit deformed - this little nudge in the middle of the moving part was not there, it was flat and it turned out to be too tiny to bend it like that. When all hope seemed lost, I remembered that I have a very old (at least 13 years) logitech controller laying around somewhere. I've decided to see if It's analog sensor uses the same disk by any chance. It did, and placing it in my xbox controller fixed my issue :) So after my experience with all of this I can give you the following advices: - be extra carefull when taking out and putting back in the disk - If you have an old controller with analog sticks somewhere see if you can replace the disk part to fix your issue Cheers!

At 1:45, method five worked for me. I tried everything up to opening it up with no luck. My left thumb stick y-axis was acting up. I q-tipped all the spots you recommended but did not work. So, I opted to separate the green door enough with a dental pick and tried to clean it with a Q-Tip but evidently that wasn't quite good enough, as the next step I took was to actually flush out the potentiometer with the alcohol, and after blowing out the excess alcohol and cycling the controller a bit, replaced the battery and top cover and then gave it a go and it is now working perfectly! Thanks for the video!

I was a bit skeptical that it would ruin my controller for good and that's exactly what happened. Be very careful with step 6, once I opened those green flaps after 5:42 then my controller was never the same again, now there is an unfixable permanent drift. That part is very sensitive and didn't like being opened. Unless you really don't mind losing a controller I don't recommend going past step 5.

Mine was the opposite, I had the most horrible drift and cleaning that 1 green door thingy, boom no more drift, I think it’s very easy to break so just be careful

It’s likely you were just too rough with that step. The metal on the disc is extremely fragile and prone to breaking off. If you break a piece off it’s super tiny and can get lodged somewhere. Not to mention if you don’t replace it properly it will just flat out break. It goes in a specific orientation or it will just break your stick.

Went in order, gave them serious tries, the straw worked almost immediately, a single white medium sized crumb flew out as soon as I blew into the problem area. I used a method that was somewhere between 5 and 6. I opened the doors partially but not enough to remove the discs. I dropped some iso and blew air into the openings. It worked like a charm! After failing several other tries and a lot of frustration, this is what did it for me. Just came here to say that if method 5 didn’t work and you aren’t comfortable taking those tiny, delicate discs out, you can try opening them partially, but also VERY carefully.

Method 6 was the solution for me. Took about 2 hours since it was my first time doing something like this and I was being extra careful. The Q-tip had dark smudges when cleaning the inside of the green door, so I figured that is what was causing the drift. Closing the green door took longer for me than I thought, but eventually I got it to close. Many thanks for the solution!

Thank you so much! Worked like a charm! As you stated the most struggle i had was with the grips... Also my controller was built with security torx screws which have a little pin in the middle. For those of you who also have those screws, you can unscrew them with a small flathead if you dont have the right torx bit. There was also only one connector cable for me. I followed the list up until Method 6, which seemed to do the trick for me. The inside of the "disk-chamber" of my Y-Axis was fairly dirty. I cleaned both of the disks and chambers with Isopropyl. Putting it back together i unfortunately broke one of those tabs in the grip. Both of the grips definitely feel "looser" now but man...the drift is gone... Cheers!

For what it's worth, I track the work/doesn't work comments. For this video, I estimate about 90% will be able to solve their issue if they do every method. 60% of people will solve it by doing only the non invasive cleaning methods shown early in the video.

7:41 I’ve actually had the gray part for one of my working controllers fall out of place and end up behind the trigger before, so I had to remove it without opening up the controller. Luckily the controller still worked after that. The only significant change is sometimes I have to manually reset the stick to center when it doesn’t do it by itself.

I used a white Xbox One S controller for like 6 years with a LOT of drops and hits, it stills works perfectly. I have been using the black Series X controller for like less than a year and it is already failing:/

Samee Did method 5 and used a syringe and a mini thin tweezer and properly cleaned it for like 30 minutes. It went from drifting all the way to the top and inconsitently to the bottom to only a minor drift up and a bit right, but so little that it isnt really noticeable

Thanks a lot. Method 6 worked for me. It wasn’t necessary to retire the sensor at all. Just a little open and wd 40. Let the product to “dry” a little (4 hours)

I have a feeling mine is damage related, I just don’t know how. I do know that at one point it fell pretty hard and the left bumper was difficult to press for a while, as if it was bent. Now it feels like normal again, I think. But the left stick drifts with or without contact after a few seconds, sometimes it doesn’t. So weird.

Same here, I got my controller on the 22nd of may of this year as a birthday gift cause I asked for a new controller, my new one has already got drift and I feel that it's something to do with the firmware update, I recently did another controller firmware update and ever since it hasn't been the same and now my camera joystick has upwards drift

I truly believe it has to do with the new controller update because my controller was fine before I updated it, and i take care of my controllers. It’s basically brand new. The update did it and it’s funny everyone having the same problem after the update but Microsoft is denying it.

Dude I love you so much! It literally works. I used method one on my controller analog drift and it didn’t work but once I used method two by blowing into the sides while pushing the drift on the opposite side and it worked! I couldn’t believe it! I had to walk away from my controller and pretend it didn’t happened because I deadass thought your methods weren’t gonna work but it did! I’m really happy because I been having problem for weeks now and it went away. Thank you so much!

Thank you for sharing the fixes. They work. I ended up using Method 6. Not only the disc but the contact inside the green door needs to be cleaned too. And make sure the flat dent of the disc has to point up when you are putting it back inside the green door.

Just wanted to say Method 2 helped me solve the issue of my controller stick going the wrong way outright. It was a 3rd party controller (made by PowerA) so these methods work for multiple controllers. Thank you again for posting this video!

#6 fixed my issue. I used a q-tip and alcohol. After cleaning my q-tip was black after cleaning one of them. I put it back together and it had 0 issues. Thanks for the help.

Tried a few of your tips with cleaning the debris out of my XBox Series S controller, and they seem to have helped. Gently hit the back of the controller, vacuum all around, then I carefully cleaned remaining debris with a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol (that’s rubbing alcohol that is usually kept in a bathroom as a first aid disinfectant those of you who didn’t know). For me removing the grey plastic clip at the side fixed the problem, as part of that actual clip had broke off on my controller and got stuck in the mechanism. The stick is a bit looser now but its saved my controller from being sold on as spares! Many thanks

I had insane drifting on my left stick and just cleaning from the inside seemed to have helped greatly. It still moves a tiny tiny bit but stops when I check the calibration, but it's not even registered in games. Thanks man! You just saved me 60€.

I actually went back and did all the steps to try and get rid of the drifting completely (still had some that was getting on my nerves). I was afraid at first as well, but if you're a bit careful, especially with those delicate disks at the sticks, you'll be fine.

Method #6 also worked for me. I had a bad drift on the right analog. Take your time and pause the video as you're disassembling the controller. Same thing when putting it back together. It's not difficult but it's also easy to damage components.

Unfortunately for me in the middle of trying out method #5, there was a tiny piece of plastic sticking out, when I took a closer look I realized that it was actually broken. I dont know how it broke in the first place cause I just kept it in it's box for a while.
