How to Fix Anti Siphon Valve on Faucet

It is very common for outdoor faucets, or outdoor spigots, to have leaks after a cold winter. Typically it is the anti-siphon valve that is the problem. An anti-siphon valve replacement kit only costs a few dollars and you can replace it on your outdoor faucet in about five minutes. Hello. Just thought I would offer another bit of information. First thank you for the wonderful video. Very helpful. Not really necessary to turn off the water or remove the spigot handle, because the valve is holding the water back. Often, it is not the plastic part that is cracked, but there is a little rubber washer that gets pushed up through the openings during freezing weather. Sometimes you can just unscrew the plastic piece, gently push out the center peace, and flatten out the washer. Put it back together and you are good to go until next season.

That is what I need to fix on on mine. However, the valve is on super tight. Any suggestions on how to get the thing to unscrew without breaking it? It is just plastic.

No need to turn the water off to do this. As long as your spigot valve is closed, no water will flow out.

good video, so in Canada these hyrants are about $50 , each year they start leaking . so if i buy the repalcement plastic piece it should fix it? ($15 plus shipping :)

Agreed, no need to turn the water off. Also, the inner plastic piece has a specific orientation, which you neglect to show. That would be helpful considering many of these replacement valves come with zero instructions.

The one i have leaks when i have water hose on and the water is not actually flowing, the water just shoots all over the place, would this fix that? Great video.

I connected a 3 hose timer to it and added a little sprinkler system to my yard, my spigots anti syphon valve leaks after 20 mins of running. The washer gets pushed out and I have to push it back in then again , 20 mins it comes out again. Help please

I pull the cap off and turn on the handle WITHOUT the water hose on and the water shoots strait it the air perfectly. Is there some sort of piece that fell apart in the inside? I unscrewed it and there was nothing inside..🤷‍♂️

when i turn on the faucet the stem or handle pops out then i have to push it in to turn it off. there is no leak it's just i have to to push it in and turn to turn it off. can anyone help? i tried to unscrew the handle but there seems to have no screw to remove.

This is probably a dumb question, but what IS an anti siphon valve, what does it do? I’ve never seen one before.

The anti-siphon valve it designed to prevent water from back-flowing into the water supply line and into the home’s potable water supply, and potentially contaminating it. Why did you remove the faucet handle to replace anti siphon valve? You could of done it without removing it.

What’s the best way to get the plastic insert out? I got the cap off, but the white plastic thing is stuck so tight!

Same here. I actually broke off the top of the plastic insert, so now it's stuck inside the threads of the faucet. I tried to pull it out with pliers, everything. It's stuck to the thread wall. I tried to burn it and melt it out. But the flame from the match wouldn't get hot enough to melt the plastic away. I guess I could try a blow torch (for a sustained flame). I'll just have to be careful, not to burn the side of my house.

That screw holding the handle on my spigot is frozen in place. Penetrating oil and impact driver can't move it.
